Sources revealed to ESPN on Wednesday that the Denver Broncos have decided to release Randy Gregory from his contract. This brings an end to any hopes for the outside linebacker to become a start in the team.

Gregory signed a five-year, $70 million contract in March 2022, at which point he hoped to become an elite pass-rusher. With a $14 million base salary this season and another $5 million during the next season. His tenure at the Broncos deteriorated quickly, however, with the player and his representatives asking for a release from his Broncos contract earlier this week.

This season, the Broncos have been near the bottom of the league in almost every defensive category. Still, Gregory has had limited involvement, with the player being pulled from the starting lineup against the Chicago Bears last week. This season, he has just nine tackles in four games and one sack.

Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was carted off of his team’s practice session on Thursday after incurring a right hamstring injury. “It’s a hamstring,” Broncos coach Sean Payton confirmed following the incident, adding, “We’ll get an MRI and see where he’s at with it.” The wide receiver is expected to be sidelined for several weeks as a result.

Jeudy has become the fifth wide receiver for the Broncos who may be sidelined over the medium- to long-term. Tim Patrick is out for the season with a torn Achilles tendon, KJ Hamler is dealing with a heart ailment, Jalen Virgil suffered a knee injury, and Brendan Johnson recently returned to practice on Thursday after missing several weeks with a leg injury.

Last season, Jeudy missed three games as a result of an ankle injury. He also dealt with a hamstring setback during the off-season workouts leading to the 2022 season. He also briefly missed out on the past off-season with a thigh injury.

ESPN analyst Rex Ryan was interviewed on Saturday by the Denver Broncos for the role of defensive coordinator, sources confirmed to ESPN on Monday. The former NFL head coach previously stated that he would only leave his analyst role “for the perfect situation”.

Before turning to a career in broadcasting in 2017, the 60-year-old Ryan served as a head coach in the NFL for 30 years. This included eight years as the head coach of the New York Jets (2009-2014) and the Buffalo Bills (2015-2016). His highlights included leading the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship games in 2009 and 2010.

Prior to becoming a head coach, Ryan served in various roles at the Baltimore Ravens for 10 years. This included spending four years as the team’s defensive coordinator, during which time the Ravens’ defense was ranked in the top 10 every season. In five of Ryan’s six seasons in New York, the Jets’ defense ranked in the top 10 as well.

Competing with Ryan for the defensive coordinator role is former Broncos head coach and Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, among several other candidates. Joseph is also expected to interview for the defensive coordinator role offered by the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Denver Broncos received news on Monday that the injuries to wide receiver Jerry Jeudy and center Graham Glasgow are not as serious as the team first suspected. Coach Nathaniel Hackett further stated that both players’ injuries will be assessed on a day-to-day basis this week.

Jeudy suffered an ankle injury during the Broncos’ 17-10 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, thereby having to leave the field during the first play from scrimmage. Glasgow was injured during the same game, picking up a right shoulder injury late in the third quarter which forced him to leave the game as well.

Right tackle Billy Turner and nickel cornerback K’Waun Williams were also injured during the Titans game, however, both players will be unavailable for a longer term. Hackett said that they were “week-to-week” after both incurring knee injuries.

Before receiving the update on Jeudy’s injury, the Broncos were concerned that his injury was of a serious nature as, during the Broncos’ first play from scrimmage, Jeudy grabbed at his left ankle mid-run and had to be escorted off the field. He then underwent an MRI and was placed in a walking boot.

The Denver Broncos wide receiver Tim Patrick has suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, thereby ruling him out of action for the season. The injury occurred during a training drill on Tuesday.

After catching a pass, Patrick turned to run up field, at which point his leg buckled and he collapsed to the ground, clutching at his knee. Several concerned teammates approached Patrick and surrounded him, immediately aware of the issue that befell their teammate as the team’s trainers arrived on the scene to treat him.

Team training was halted in its entirety at the time of Patrick’s fall, only to be resumed once the wide receiver was escorted off the field and provided medical treatment. According to veteran safety Kareem Jackson, this is a testament to Patrick’s standing with the team. Jackson referred to this incident as “the longest I’ve seen practice kind of held [up].”

“Guy like Tim … it breaks your heart,” coach Nathaniel Hackett remarked as the Broncos medical team awaited Patrick’s medical test results. “The worst part of this game is when things like this happen.”

Considering that Patrick racked up the third most receptions for the Broncos last season with 53 and led the team with five touchdown catches, the wide receiver’s injury has caused much anxiety for his team. Now, the Broncos will have to adapt to life without Patrick leading up to the new season.

The Denver Broncos are one step closer to having new owners after the team accepted an $4.65 billion from the Walton-Penner family. The Broncos confirmed the news in an official statement issued on Tuesday.

The Walton-Penner family includes Walmart heir Rob Walton, his daughter Carrie Walton Penner and his son-in-law Greg Penner. They are joined by several other investors, who are set to own minority stakes in the franchise.

The sale of the Broncos now needs to be approved by the NFL owners, but that isn’t expected to be an issue, according to multiple reports. If everything checks out, the price would be a record for a franchise across sports markets in the U.S. The previous record was held by MLB’s New York Mets, which were sold for $2.475 billion in 2020, while the highest price paid for an NFL franchise was $2.3 billion David Tepper paid for the Carolina Panthers back in 2018.

“While this purchase and sale agreement is pending approval from the NFL’s finance committee and league ownership, today marks a significant step on the path to an exciting new chapter in Broncos history,” said Broncos CEO Joe Ellis in a statement.

The sale of the Denver Broncos will mark the end of a saga that surrounded the franchise since the long-term owner Pat Bowlen stepped away due to illness in 2014 and placed his interest in a trust. When Bowlen died in 2019, his seven children engaged in a messy legal battle to take the reins of the team before coming to an agreement to sell the team.

The Denver Broncos are going to be getting a new voice in their front office. This is after Hall of Famer John Elway has been making all the football decisions for the franchise in the past 10 years.

The Broncos confirmed on Tuesday that the organization intends to hire a general manager ahead of the 2021 NFL season. The new GM will take on most of Elway’s duties, including roster moves, draft choices, and free agency dealings.

Elway will assume a new role moving forward and will act as the Broncos’ President of football operations.

“I knew there was going to be a time at some point in time, this was a position I would, hopefully, move to,” said Elway during a press conference. “It gave me the opportunity to move up and I think it’s the right time for me.”

Elway will be at the front of the GM search with CEO Joe Ellis, director of player personnel Matt Russell, and head coach Vic Fangio. Several names have already been linked with the opening, including San Francisco 49ers senior football vice president Adam Peters and Tampa Bay Buccaneers director of player personnel John Spytek.

John Elway joined the Denver Broncos in an executive role in 2011, having previously led the franchise to two Super Bowls as a quarterback during the late ’90s. Elway was handed all the decision-making power, and he did the best with it early on.

In the first five years under Elway in a management role, the Broncos won five AFC titles, made two Super Bowl trips, and won Super Bowl 50.

The next five, however, were less successful. Elway didn’t do a good job in finding a replacement for retired quarterback Peyton Manning, and the Broncos failed to make the playoffs ever since while recording just one winning season.

Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and defensive end Derek Wolfe will remain with the Denver Broncos for at least one more year. Broncos’ general manager John Elway told reporters on Wednesday that the team plans to pick up options for 2019 on both Sanders and Wolfe’s contract.

By keeping Emmanuel Sanders on the roster, Denver is betting that the 31-year-old will completely recover from the ACL tear he suffered last season. Sanders played 12 games in 2018, during which he had 71 receptions for 868 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He is set to earn $10.15 million this year.

“I love the way Emmanuel Sanders plays the game,” – said Elway of Sanders according to the Denver Post. “I love his heart. I love his competitiveness. He would be a great asset for us. But the question is how he is going to come off that Achilles at 31 years old? We’ll be in the process in figuring that out.”

Derek Wolfe played all 16 games last season, and ended the year with 43 tackles, 1.5 sacks, six passes defended and one interception. Wolfe, who was Broncos’ 36th overall pick in 2012, will make $8 million in 2019.

There are less and less NFL teams with coaching vacancies each day. After the Green Bay Packers zeroed in on Matt LaFleur, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, and Denver Broncos all followed and found their new head coaches in the last 48 hours. New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, and Miami Dolphins now remain the only teams in the league without an HC.

Buccaneers were the first one to find a new HC, agreeing to a four-year deal with Arians on Tuesday. Arians, who decided to retire as Cardinals’ coach after the 2017 season, spent the last year as an NFL analyst for CBS.  He will succeed Dirk Koetter, who was fired after three seasons in which he compiled 19-29 record.

“Bruce Arians is one of the NFL’s most well-respected coaches over the past two decades, and we are excited to have him leading our team,” – said Buccaneers owner Bryan Glazer in a statement. “Throughout this process, we focused on finding the right coach with a proven ability to elevate our players and lead our team forward. Bruce has played a large role in the development and career success of some of our league’s best players, and we look forward to seeing him continue that work here with our franchise.”

Cardinals, on the other hand, decided to turn to college football for their new head coach hiring Kliff Kingsbury to replace Steve Wilks. Kingsbury was fired as Texas Tech coach in November after he had three straight losing seasons.

Browns decided to stay in the house after interviewing several candidates and choose their interim offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens as the man who will lead the franchise in the future. Kitchens doesn’t have previous head coaching experience and was relatively unknown before taking over OC job in Week 9 of 2018 NFL season. The 44-year-old, who joined the franchise just a year ago as a running backs coach, is credited with getting most out of Browns’ offense in the eight games he called plays which was a big reason why the front office decided to give him this promotion.

Finally, Chicago Bears’ defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is getting the HC job with Broncos. Fangio doesn’t have the experience of being at the helm of an NFL team but has spent the last 33 years serving at various assistant positions. He is credited for turning the Bears’ defense, which was 30th in the NFL before he joined in 2014, into NFL’s No.1 defense in scoring and takeaways.
