Tampa Bay Lightning have just finished one of their biggest offseason tasks. The team announced on Monday that they have finally managed to get a deal done with their restricted free agent center Brayden Point.

Point and Lighting agreed on a three-year bridge deal that will see the 23-year-old All-Star earn $6.75 million annually and $20.25 million overall. This comes just days after the player’s agent told the media that the two sides were “a ways apart right now.”

Point played his best season as a pro in 2018/19, making 79 appearances and contributing with 41 goals and 51 assists for a total of 92 points. His performances helped Lightning to win the Atlantic Division for the second consecutive season.

“We are very pleased to re-sign Brayden today,” – said Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois in a statement. “He is the consummate professional with an unwavering commitment to team success, growing as a player and improving every day. It is that mindset that makes him an outstanding role model, teammate and person, on and off the ice. We look forward to getting Brayden back on the ice with his Lightning teammates as soon as possible.”

Brayden Point was Lightning’s third-round pick in 2014 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut during the 2016/17 season and became an integral part of Tampa Bay’s squad ever since.

Point played a total of 229 NHL games in the past three seasons, scoring 91 goals and dishing 107 assists in the process.
