It’s an end of an era for the Washington Wizards. According to multiple reports, the Wizards agreed to a trade that will send their All-Star Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns.

Reportedly, the Wizards will get a package that includes veteran point guard Chris Paul, shooting guard Landry Shamet, multiple second-round picks, and a picks swap options. The Suns, on the other hand, form a new Big 3 with Beal, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant.

The trade is still not official, as the Wizards are trying to get a third team involved in an attempt to offload Paul and allow him to play for a contender next season.

The Washington Wizards signed Beal to a five-year, $251 million max contract last summer with the intention of building a contending team around him. However, after missing out on the playoffs in 2022-23, it became clear that the Wizards don’t have a pathway to be relevant as currently constructed.

Wizards’ new president of basketball operation Michael Winger decided to opt for a rebuild this offseason, and in order to do so, the team needed to move on from Beal and his massive contract. The issue for Washington was that Beal received a no-trade clause, which heavily limited his market.

Last week, Beal and the Wizards agreed to explore trade options, and things picked up quickly after that. Several teams reached out to make an inquiry for the player, but the Suns and the Miami Heat emerged as the most viable options. In the end, Beal wanted to go to Phoenix and used his leverage to get the Wizards to accept what looks like an extremely underwhelming deal.

Bradley Beal spent all of his 11 years as a pro with the Wizards. He earned three All-Star nods during that time while also making the All-NBA Third Team in 2021. Beal averaged 23.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in 50 games last season.

The Washington Wizards team president Michael Winger is in close contact with Bradley Beal’s agent, Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, over the possibility of working out a trade deal involving the player. This comes after several teams expressed an interest in signing the three-time All-Star guard.

Beal has a unique standing as the only NBA player to have a no-trade clause negotiated into his contract, putting him in complete control of selecting his next destination should a deal be concluded. He is currently on a five-year, $251 million contract with the Wizards.

As the NBA draft on June 22 fast approaches with the free agency following on July 1, conversations with Beal’s agent are expected to become more frequent. In addition to Beal’s potential move, the Wizards are also waiting on the contract option decisions of forwards Kyle Kuzma and Kristaps Porzingis, who are poised to become unrestricted free agents.

To date, Beal has played all 11 of his NBA seasons in Washington. Last season, he averaged 23.2 points and recorded a career-best 51% shooting despite facing an injury last season.

All-Star guard Bradley Beal decided to stay with the Washinton Wizards despite being arguably the best player to hit the free market this year. Reportedly, Beal inked a five-year, $251 million deal that will keep him with the franchise through the 2026-27 NBA season.

Beal’s agent Mark Bartelstein confirmed the news to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

On the other hand, the Wizards issued a short statement saying that the organization “intends to enter into a player contract with Bradley Beal once the moratorium period ends.”

Bradley Beal previously declined his $36.4 million option with the Wizards to hit this year’s free agency. And while some teams did their due diligence on the three-time All-Star, the message has been that Washington remains Beal’s focus. The Wizards didn’t hesitate to give Beal the best offer they possibly could, and the two sides quickly took care of business.

While Beal would have a better chance to win an NBA title someplace else, the 29-year-old reportedly wants to try and do it with the Wizards. He spent his entire NBA career with the franchise, loves Washington, and is deeply connected with the fans and the community. It also didn’t hurt that staying put was the most lucrative option of them all.

After averaging 30+ points in back-to-back seasons, Beal had a down year by his standards in 2021-22. Dealing with a wrist injury, he only managed to play 40 games and put up 23.2 points, 4.7 boards, and 6.6 assists per contest while shooting a career-low 30 percent from the three-point line. He opted to have surgery on his wrist in February and is expected to make a full recovery in time for the next NBA season.

The Washington Wizards have just been handed a massive blow in their attempts to secure a playoff appearance. Their star guard Bradley Beal needs to undergo surgery on his left wrist, and the procedure will sideline him for the remainder of the 2021-22 season.

Beal suffered the injury in a 115-95 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies in late January and hasn’t played since. The Wizards hoped an extended rehab would help him deal with the issue, but further tests showed he has a torn scapholunate ligament and needs the surgery.

Beal has struggled so far in 2021-22 and hasn’t been able to replicate his All-Star form from the previous seasons. He has averaged 23.2 points, his lowest since 2017, while also shooting a career-worst 30.0 percent from the three-point line. On the other hand, his playmaking ability improved, and he has been dishing 6.6 assists per contest as a result.

“I’m disappointed to have my season end this way, but we all agreed that this was the best decision,” said Beal in a statement. “I look forward to coming back at 100% and continuing to lead this team as we work together to build toward the future.”

It remains to be seen what kind of effect the injury will have on Bradley Beal’s future with the franchise. He is currently in the last year of his deal and holds a $36.4 million player option for 2022-23. However, Beal is expected to decline it in order to hit the free agency market. After that, he could return to Washington on a deal worth up to $245 million or head somewhere else for less money but have a bigger chance of winning a title.

The Washington Wizards were one of the more pleasant surprises in early 2021-22, starting with a 10-4 record. Since, however, the Wizards have been in free fall and are currently 11th in the Eastern Conference at 24-29.

The Washington Wizards revamped their roster this offseason to get closer to contention and convince their superstar Bradley Beal to sign a new extension with the franchise. But it appears that they might have to wait a bit longer before finding out whether they did enough.

The Wizards can offer Beal, who is set to play 2021-22 on an expiring contract, a four-year, $181.5 million extension starting Friday. And the team will waste no time in doing so, according to general manager Tommy Shepard’s previous statements.

Beal, on the other hand, isn’t in a hurry to decide on his future and will take his time before giving the franchise his response.

“My biggest thing is getting us off going to a good start,” Beal said via the Washington Post when asked about the extension. “We worry about the contract money and all that later. I’ll let them [the Wizards and his agents] deal with it when the time comes, for sure. I got all year to sign, too. So I’m not in a rush.”

It’s worth pointing out that Beal reiterated several times that he likes playing in Washington and that he would like to be with the franchise for the long term. However, we’ve seen how NBA players can quickly change their minds, especially if they’re on a team that isn’t competitive.

Bradley Beal is coming off a career year that saw him pick up his third All-Star nod and first All-Team NBA selection. He narrowly missed on the scoring title by averaging 31.3 points per game while adding 4.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists. Beal also helped the Wizards make the playoffs for the first time since 2017-18.

Star shooting guard Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards revealed on Wednesday that he is still undecided when it comes to taking part in the restart of the NBA season in August.

Beal, which has been recovering from some nagging injuries that limited him before the postponement of the season, said that both his small injuries as well as the danger and limitations of the Orlando restart have forced him to consider not playing.

“Listen, it’s not a walk in the park,” Beal said about the bubble in which players will have to live in Orlando. “That is where a lot of guys are concerned about. We can’t just leave. We can’t just order whatever food we want. We can’t just do activities in which we want to do. We can’t go to our teammate’s room.”

Beal, a two-time All-Star, has been putting up superstar caliber numbers this season for Washington. He has averaged 30.5 points, 6.2 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in 57 games this season.

The 3rd overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft has become the Wizards’ franchise cornerstone along with John Wall. Despite Beal’s excellence, however, the Wizards find themselves in 9th place in the Eastern Conference with a 24-40 record.

Beal is expected to make his decision about 2020 in the coming weeks.

The Washington Wizards have decided to make the best offer they can to shooting guard Bradley Beal.

Beal, who has been the subject of various trade rumors throughout the NBA offseason, has been made a priority by the Washington front office, who will try to do all in its power to keep him in DC through the summer of 2024.

The University of Florida alum’s current contract with the team only runs through the end of next season, at which point he would be due to hit the free-agent market.

If he were to accept Washington’s upcoming contract extension offer, he would be set to earn $111 million over the final three years of his deal.

Beal could, however, wait to sign an extension until next summer, which would run for a length of 4 additional years and be worth $155. If he were to earn All-NBA honors, that supermax extension would be worth a gargantuan $254 million over five years.

The 7-year NBA veteran has never made an All-Pro team, but he has made the Eastern Conference All-Star squad the last two seasons. He averaged 25.6 points per game on 48% shooting in a career year last season.
