It is hard for players to enter their names in the history books of a storied franchise like the Boston Celtics. However, Kristaps Porzingis managed to do just that by achieving a rare feat in a 116-107 win over the Houston Rockets on Sunday night.

Porzingis was the best player on the court, finishing the game with 32 points, six rebounds, and five blocks while draining six threes out of 11 attempts. He became the first player in Celtics history to have five blocks and six three-pointers in a single game.

Porzingis also made some NBA history. His performance was only the third time that a player had 32+ points, 5+ blocks, and 6+ three-pointers. On top of that, Porzingis now has three games with 30+ points, 5+ blocks, and 5+ threes made, which is the most ever.

Speaking after the game, Porzingis focused on praising Celtics’ fans, who flocked to Rockets’ Toyota Center to support the visiting team.

“Honestly, it’s incredible,” Porzingis said after the game. “We’re on the road, and we get this support as if we’re at home. I cannot think of another fan base in the NBA that is like this — it’s absolutely a blessing to play in front of these fans.”

Kristaps Porzingis joined the Celtics in the offseason in a trade with the Washington Wizards. He proved to be a great addition to Boston’s All-Star duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, averaging 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game.

The Boston Celtics are the best team in the NBA at the moment, and according to recent reports, they want to get even better. NBA insider Marc Stein recently reported that the Celtics are currently pursuing a reunion with Utah Jazz’s big man Kelly Olynyk.

The Celtics believe they could use some quality depth on the center position to take the load off of Kristaps Porzingis. Olynyk is a perfect candidate, thanks to his familiarity with the system as well as his ability to stretch the floor.

Olynyk is having a solid season with the Jazz, averaging 7.9 points, 5.5 assists, and a career-high 4.6 assists. The 32-year-old player is also making 41.4% of his shots behind the three-point line, his best mark since turning pro.

However, pulling off the deal won’t be easy for the Celtics. Olynyk is attracting interest from other teams, and the Jazz likely won’t let him leave for cheap. Also, he has a $12 million salary and is on an expiring contract, meaning Boston would have to give up some of their depth for a player that could be a rental.

Kelly Olynyk started his career with the Celtics, who acquired him in a draft-day trade with the Dallas Mavericks in 2013. After four seasons in Boston, Olynyk became a free agent and signed with the Miami Heat. He also had stints with the Houston Rockets and the Detroit Pistons before landing with the Jazz.

The Boston Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis will miss the in-season tournament quarterfinal against the Indiana Pacers on Monday night. Porzingis is still recovering from a left calf strain that he picked up during the Celtics’ 113-96 loss to the Orlando Magic on November 24. He has subsequently missed three games.

Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla confirmed that Porzingis will remain on the sidelines until his injury is reevaluated “after a week or so”. This is a frustrating disruption in what has otherwise been an impressive first season for Porzingis at the Celtics, with the Latvian averaging almost 19 points with 54.7% shooting from the field.

The Pacers are also set to be shorthanded for Monday’s quarterfinal, with star guard Tyrese Haliburton listed as questionable after he suffered a non-COVID illness and a bone bruise in his right knee that ruled him out of Saturday’s win over the Miami Heat. Forward Jalen Smith is out with left knee and heel injuries.

The Boston Celtics have signed guard Payton Pritchard to a new deal. The deal locks Pritchard to the franchise for four more years after the 2023-24 NBA season.

According to Pritchard’s agency CAA Sports, the extension is worth $30 million.

Pritchard had a limited role with the Celtics in 2022-23, averaging a career-low 13.4 minutes per game. However, he showed a potential for bigger production in the last game of the regular season, putting up a career-high 30 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists against the Atlanta Hawks.

Unsatisfied with the lack of playing time, Pritchard asked the Celtics to find a trade for him. But reportedly, the organization is planning to give him a bigger chunk of minutes moving forward, which is why he received a new deal instead.

“It feels really good,” Pritchard said about the extension on Sunday. “Just to be secure, lock it in, and be a part of a great organization, a great city. Obviously, I think this is the best basketball organization and city in the NBA. It feels good.”

Pritchard entered the league as the late first-round pick by the Celtics in the 2020 NBA Draft. He is averaging 6.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while shooting 40% from the 3-point line in his three seasons in the NBA.

The Boston Celtics continued its busy offseason over the weekend by pulling off another blockbuster trade. After acquiring center Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards early in the summer, the Celtics now went and added veteran point guard Jrue Holiday in a trade with the Portland Trail Blazers.

Holiday landed in Portland last week as part of the trade that sent Damian Lillard to the Milwaukee Bucks. However, the Trail Blazers never actually intended to keep Holiday, wanting to turn him into more assets, which a trade with the Celtics achieved.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Celtics gave up a lot to get Holiday. They are sending center Robert Williams III, guard Malcolm Brogdon, as well as a 2024 first-rounder via Golden State and a 2029 first-round pick to Portland.

The Blazers are expected to keep Williams as a frontcourt partner to Deandre Ayton, whom they also brought in as part of the Lillard trade. However, Brogdon is expected to be made available on a trade market, considering Portland is loaded with young talent at the point guard position.

The Celtics, on the other hand, made a move that makes them one of the favorites in the Eastern Conference once again. They get one of the best two-way guards in the league to pair with Porzingis and All-Star duo Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Holiday, who previously also played with the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Orleans Pelicans, is entering his 15th NBA season. He is averaging 16.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game since turning pro and has two NBA All-Star nods.

Boston Celtics’ inability to trade Malcolm Brogdon earlier in the offseason reportedly didn’t sit all that well with the veteran point guard. While making an appearance on the Celtics Beat podcast last week, The Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn revealed that Brogdon is now “angry” with the Celtics and isn’t communicating with the team.

Brogdon was set to be traded to the Los Angeles Clippers back in June as part of the trade that would land Kristaps Porzingis in Boston. However, the Clippers decided not to greenlit the deal due to concerns about Brogdon’s health. The Celtics ended up reworking the trade by sending Marcus Smart to the Memphis Grizzlies.

“Malcolm is the one I’m concerned about, because we’ve heard nothing, and he’s angry with the team,” Washburn said when discussing the Celtics. “So I don’t think communication between the two sides has been fruitful … He hasn’t talked all summer.”

After trading Smart, the Celtics have made a U-turn, rejecting several trade offers for Brogdon in the last couple of months. It remains to be seen whether this does anything to repair what seems to be a damaged relationship.

Malcolm Brogdon played 67 games with the Celtics in 2022-23, averaging 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

Jaylen Brown has agreed to a five-year supermax extension with the Boston Celtics worth up to $303.7 million, his agent, Jason Glushon, confirmed on Tuesday. This is the richest deal in NBA history.

This deal exceeds the $276 million that the Denver Nuggets forked out for two-time MVP Nikola Jokic’s extension. Brown became eligible for the supermax extension upon earning second-team All-NBA honors in 2022-23.

Brown and his agent met with Celtics management and ownership on Sunday evening to finalize the terms of the deal, after which the player completed a medical to solidify the deal.

At 26 years of age, Brown is at the peak of his career, averaging career-bests of 26.6 points and 49% shooting last season. This season, he will see out the final year of his previous contract, earning $31.8 million.

In addition to his individual performances, Brown has also impressed by forming an effective partnership with teammate Jayson Tatum. Together, the pair scored 56.7 points per game last season; the fourth-most by a duo since the 1976-77 merger, ESPN Stats & Information showed. Furthermore, the pair have become the only duo aside from Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant to score 30 points in 10 games.

Grant Williams, one of the most notable free agents left on the market, reportedly has a new team. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Williams is heading to the Dallas Mavericks via sign-and-trade with the Boston Celtics.

As part of the deal, which also includes the San Antonio Spurs, Williams is getting a five-year, $53 million deal. The Celtics will get two second-rounders while the Spurs land forward Reggie Bullock from Dallas. The agreement will also see the Mavs receiving two second-round selections.

Williams emerged as a valuable contributor for the Celtics in 2022-23 and was expected to assume an even more prominent role last season. However, Boston’s new head coach Joe Mazzulla didn’t seem too eager to expand his role.

The 24-year-old player ended up playing similar minutes in 2022-23 while averaging 8.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game, all career highs. Still, his playing time took a dip in the playoffs, where he spent just 17.7 minutes on the floor on average.

Williams underwent surgery on his hand this offseason but is expected to be ready in time for training camp. He might end up being a great acquisition for the Mavs, considering his ability to defend the team’s best players and efficient three-point shooting.

The Boston Celtics are reportedly finalizing a trade that will see them land big man Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards. It is a three-way trade that also includes the Memphis Grizzlies.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Celtics will get Porzingis, 2023 first-round pick (No. 25), and 2024 first-round pick (via Golden State; top-four protected), while sending guard Marcus Smart to the Grizzlies. The Wizards will receive Tyus Jones, Danilo Gallinari, Mike Muscala and the No. 35 selection in the 2023 NBA Draft.

The teams are still working on the finer details of the deal, as Porzingis needs to opt into his player option for 2023-24 for the trade to come through. The 27-year-old player’s option is worth $36 million.

The Wizards and the Celtics previously had a similar trade in the works, which included sending Malcolm Brogdon to the Los Angeles Clippers. However, the LA team decided to pull the breaks on the deal due to concerns about Brogdon’s health.

This move makes a lot of sense for Boston, considering that their starting power forward Al Horford is not getting any younger. Porzingis is a better offensive player than Horford and has shown that he can play outstanding defense when he wants to. Porzingis also gives the Celtics more positional versatility, as he can successfully play the center position.

Porzingis struggled to stay healthy in some previous seasons but managed to play 65 games this past season, which is the most since his sophomore year in the league. He finished the campaign averaging career-high 23.2 points alongside 8.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks.

The Wizards, on the other hand, continue tearing down their team. They have previously traded franchise star Bradley Beal and moving on from Porzingis signals that the team is in a full rebuild. Washington will now get a promising player in Jones and more draft capital.

Finally, the Grizzlies solidify their point guard position with Smart. The former NBA Defensive Player of the Year complements nicely with their star Ja Morant, being able to step in for Moran when he rests or play on the wing.

We don’t blame you if you forgot that veteran forward Danilo Gallinari is a Boston Celtics player. Gallinari signed with the Celtics last summer but hasn’t played a single game for the franchise after tearing his ACL during international duty with Italy.

It appears that Gallinari will finally make his Celtics debut this upcoming season since the 34-year-old player just picked up his player option for 2023-24. The option comes with $6.8 million in base salary.

Gallinari’s agent Michael Tellem confirmed the news to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Thursday.

Reportedly, Gallinari is progressing well in his recovery from the ACL injury and should be ready to start the season. Despite the downtime, he is expected to have a role on the Celtics, who should benefit from his shooting.

Gallinari had his most recent NBA action with the Atlanta Hawks during the 2021–22 season. He played 66 games, averaging 11.7 points and 4.7 rebounds while making a respectable 38.7% of his three-pointers.

The Celtics are Gallinari’s sixth NBA team. He started his career as the sixth overall pick by the New York Knicks in 2008 and later played with the Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, and previously-mentioned Hawks.
