Free-agent forward Danilo Gallinari has agreed to join the Boston Celtics on a two-year deal, ESPN reported on Sunday. The fully guaranteed deal, worth $13.3 million, includes a player option in the second year.

This deal, together with the partial guarantee from his contract with the San Antonio Spurs that was waived ahead of the 2022-23 season, will see Gallinari earn in excess of $17 million this season. Gallinari arrived at the Spurs as part of a trade that saw All-Star guard Dejounte Murray move to the Atlanta Hawks.

During his last season with the Hawks in 2022-23, the veteran forward averaged 11.7 points on 38% 3-point shooting. Across his 13 seasons in the NBA, the 33-year-old player has averaged 15.6 points and 4.8 rebounds.

Gallinari has made the fifth-most 3-pointers by a player standing at 6-foot-10 or taller, with his current tally standing at 1,426. Joining him at the Celtics this season is guard Malcolm Brogdon, who is arriving from the Indiana Pacers in exchange for five Celtics players as well as a 2023 first-round draft pick.

After a successful surgery, Hayward decided to describe the moment of the injury, the process of recovery and how he looks forward in a Facebook post titled “IN AN INSTANT”.

“I just remember sitting there, looking at my foot the wrong way, and it felt like an eternity.” – Hayward writes. “Dr. Rosneck, the Cavaliers doctor, braced me as he explained that they wanted to try and pop my ankle back into place. I held on, and the moment they did it, there was just a massive shot of pain, probably the most pain I’ve ever felt in my life.“

Hayward went on to describe how he was visited in the locker room after the injury by Isaiah Thomas, who had massive credit for getting Hayward to Boston. He also discovered that Celtics’ coach Brad Stevens was one of the people who carried him onto the plane.
In the post, Hayward reveals that there were certain concerns about his surgery, but at the end, it went better than expected. He used the opportunity to thank everyone who expressed their support and said he is now fully focused on getting back and finally playing in front of the home crowd.
