The Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has picked up an abductor strain, forcing him to sit out of his team’s 109-98 win over the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center on Thursday night. According to Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla, Brown is expected to be sidelined for a week or two.

“I anticipate it being pretty short,” Mazzulla said of Brown’s recovery timetable ahead of the Nets game. “I’m not sure what the timeline is. I know he tried to give it a go today and wasn’t able to do it. We’ll know more the next couple days, see how he responds.”

The 26-year-old player has been a strong performer for the Celtics this season, averaging career highs in both points (27.2 per game) and field goal percentage (49.8%). Teammate Jayson Tatum admitted that Brown’s absence will be a significant blow to the team and that everyone will have to up their game as they await his return.

On Thursday, Brown had come fourth for a second consecutive week in voting for backcourt spots for the Eastern Conference for the upcoming All-Star game in Salt Lake City next month.

By defeating the Nets, the Celtics extend their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference rankings. Boston continues to hold the best record in the NBA this season.

The Boston Celtics interim coach Joe Mazzulla has returned to the Celtics bench after incurring an eye injury. The 34-year-old coach was absent from two games as a result.

Mazzulla explained that he appears at regular, late-afternoon games at the Celtics’ TD Garden, where he got hit in the face on Tuesday prior to the Celtics’ 102-126 victory over the Houston Rockets.

His eyes were red and irritated as he spoke to the media prior to the game and ended up not coaching. He was diagnosed with corneal abrasions in both eyes and temporarily replaced by assistant coach Damon Stoudamire as a result.

“It just didn’t get much better,” Mazzulla revealed before the Celtics’ 123-111 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Sunday. I think in a situation like that I thought it was a good opportunity to trust and empower the staff and the guys.” He added that he did not want to be a distraction to his players.

With a 5-5 record in their last 10 games, the Celtics remain on top of the Eastern Conference standings. They have just two games over the second-placed Brooklyn Nets, who are currently on an 11-game winning streak.

The Boston Celtics forward Danilo Gallinari has been ruled out of action after picking up a torn left meniscus while representing Italy in a FIBA World Cup qualifying game against Georgia on Saturday. Gallinari was seen grabbing at his knee following a bounce pass, after which he made his way to the sideline and awaited medical assistance. It took the assistance of the team’s trainers to escort Gallinari back to the locker room.

While the Italian national team has not yet been able to release a timetable leading up to the forward’s return to the court, he is confirmed to remain unavailable for Italy during the EuroBasket tournament next month.

“It’s tough to talk about basketball after what we saw happen to Danilo,” Italy captain Luigi Datome stated following his team’s 91-84 win over Georgia. He went on to wish Gallinari a speedy recovery.

At 34 years of age, Gallinari will be a much-missed source of experience for Italy during the EuroBasket tournament, particularly with more than 13 years of NBA experience. He was signed by the Boston Celtics on July 12; a much-needed move for the Celtics as they seek to increase their squad depth and return to the NBA Finals this season.

Boston Celtics are currently battling Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals, and have been a better opponent than anyone could expect. Celtics entered the playoffs without their two-star players, Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving, but still managed to get this far and NBA Finals now don’t look impossible.

Missing out the series against the Cavs has been especially tough for Kyrie Irving. He was traded to the Celtics by the Cavaliers in 2017 and was de-facto the leader of the team until he went down with a left knee injury in early April. According to Celtics coach Brad Stevens, it’s “killing” Irving that he can’t make a contribution to the team’s efforts, but the good news is that his recovery is going great.

In our sit-downs, or just our casual conversations, he seems to be in a great place,” – said Stevens. “It’s killing him not to be out on the floor. But I think that would be the case, obviously, any time you’re playing this deep into the playoffs, especially in a new place. Other than that, his recovery is going great. We’re excited about that. But he seems to be in a good place.

Despite not being out there on the basketball court, Kyrie Irving has been present at Celtics’ home postseason games providing leadership and guidance to this young roster.
After asking for a trade from Cleveland in summer of 2017, Kyrie Irving landed in Boston who sent Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and Brooklyn Nets 2018 first-round draft pick in the opposite direction.

Irving ended up playing 60 regular season games in his first season with the Celtics, averaging 24.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

Boston Celtics have announced on Thursday that their All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving will miss the rest of the season including the playoffs. Irving had a minor surgery on his left knee on March 24 in order to remove the tension that was troubling him since the All-Star break, but he was expected to return at some point in the postseason.

Now, according to the Celtics, Kyrie Irving will have to undergo one more surgery due to a bacterial infection that was discovered on two screws in his patella. The screws were inserted in Irving’s knee in 2015, when suffered a fracture in 2015 NBA Finals, and will now be removed since his patella healed and “remains structurally sound” according to the team. The 26-year-old is expected to fully recover in four to five months.

After the announcement, Kyrie Irving posted a message on his Instagram profile writing “This season was only a snapshot of what’s to come from me.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BhMonavHMi0/?utm_source=ig_embed

Without Kyrie Irving, it is hard to expect that the Boston Celtics will manage to make a deeper playoff run. Before the surgery, he averaged 24.4 points, 5.1 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game and was the most important factor on the Celtic’s team.

Besides Irving and Gordon Hayward, who suffered a season-ending injury in his first official game for the team, Celtics are currently without guard Marcus Smart as well. Smart had a surgery on his right thumb in March, but the team remains hopeful that he will manage to get back at some point in the first round of the playoffs.

Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving has missed four straight games with knee soreness in March, and it looks like he won’t be back on the court anytime soon. The Celtics issued a statement on their official site on Friday which said that Irving “will tomorrow undergo a minimally invasive procedure to alleviate irritation in his left knee.” The team did not give a timeline for Irving’s return saying that “information will be provided following tomorrow’s procedure.”

Irving first noticed that his knee is flared on March 3, during the loss to the Houston Rockets. He then had to sit out the second half of the game against the Indiana Pacers, before being sidelined. The Boston Celtics are currently on a four-game road trip that begins on Friday in Portland against the Blazers.

Since the Celtics will almost certainly be the number two seed in the Eastern Conference, Irving said to the reporters that he wants to take a longer rest, in hopes that his knee will get better. When that didn’t happen, the 26-year-old point guard decided to ask for a second opinion.

The left knee in which Kyrie Irving feels soreness in the same he injured during the 2015 Finals. He had to undergo a kneecap surgery then and was sidelined for more than three months. This won’t be the same kind of surgery, but still, it is hard to see Irving coming back before the playoffs.

Boston Celtics are currently also without Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart. Smart won’t return for at least six weeks, while Brown could get back for the weekend and play in the game against the Sacramento Kings.
