You are probably familiar with various promos offered by NBA teams during games. Some NBA teams will hand out T-shirts, others will offer discount codes, while some will treat their fans with free food in case of certain events.

The Los Angeles Clippers have a particularly interesting promo that states all fans in the arena will get free chicken if an opposing player misses two consecutive free throws in the fourth quarter. This promo came into play during the regular-season finale against the Houston Rockets, thanks to center Boban Marjanovic.

Both the Clippers and Rockets had virtually nothing to play for as teams were locked in their places on standings. So, when Marjanovic went to the line with 4:44 left in the fourth quarter and missed his first free throw, he decided to treat the Clippers fans with some free food. He intentionally missed his second free throw, telling the crowd: “It’s on me,” and prompted huge cheers from the stands.

While some players probably wouldn’t want to do any favors to opposing fans, Marjanovic had plenty of reasons to do this for the Clippers’ fans. The 35-year-old Serbian played for parts of two seasons with the franchise, and despite appearing in only 56 games, he became a fan favorite due to his lighthearted humor and contagious energy.

The Dallas Mavericks are already making moves to improve their roster for the 2022-23 NBA season. According to multiple reports, the Mavs have an agreement with the Houston Rockets for center/forward Christian Wood.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reports that the Mavs have given up center Boban Marjanovic, 2016’s eighth overall pick Marquese Chriss, veteran guard Trey Burke, and small forward Sterling Brown in order to get Wood. The Rockets are also set to receive the No. 26 selection in the 2022 NBA Draft.

Wood has been one of the top performers for the rebuilding Rockets since he joined the franchise on a sign-and-trade three-year, $41-million contract in 2020. He played in 68 games this past season and finished the campaign with 17.9 points per game. He also had career-high averages in rebounds (10.1) and assists (2.3).

Despite Wood’s production, Houston didn’t really have a reason to keep him around. They are still a long way from contending and will be better off giving his minutes to some of their younger players. By trading the 26-year-old, they now have the opportunity to add more talent while also getting cap relief since all four players they got back are on expiring contracts.

On the other hand, you can’t argue with the Mavs’ decision to pull the trigger on such a deal. They immediately get better while also receiving some roster flexibility. Losing an important locker room piece in Marjanovic will probably sting, but they are hoping the positives Wood will bring on the court will outweigh the negatives.

Philadelphia 76ers will have a big problem at the center position when they face Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday. The team announced that both starting center Joel Embiid and backup Boban Marjanovic are ruled out for that game.

Embiid is still struggling with a sore left knee and is expected to be reevaluated prior to Saturday’s game against the Golden State Warriors. The 24-year-old hasn’t played a single game since the All-Star break.

Marjonovic, on the other hand, injured his knee in Monday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans and was diagnosed with a bone bruise and mild sprain. The injury shouldn’t be a worrying one, since Philadelphia’s coach Brett Brown said that MRI scan the 30-year-old recently underwent, provided him with “a sigh of relief given what my gut feel was.”

This is tough news for Philadelphia 76ers, especially since Joel Embiid has been the their best player this season. Embiid played 54 games this season, and currently averages 27.3 points, 13.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

Boban Marjanovic, who spent the first part of the season with Los Angeles Clippers, played seven games with Philadelphia during which he averaged 9.0 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
