Left-hand pitcher Blake Snell’s wait for a contract is over. The reigning NL Cy Young winner has reportedly agreed to a two-year, $62 million deal with the San Francisco Giants.

As part of the agreement, Snell received an opt-out after the 2024 MLB season, giving him an opportunity to hit the free agency market again in case of another big year.

Snell was the most-prominent free agent left on the market. He opted to wait out for a lucrative long-term contract offer but never received one. Reportedly, teams were concerned about his injury history and the fact that he only made 30+ starts twice over the course of his career.

Since making his MLB debut in 2016, Snell has a 71-55 record with a career 3.20 ERA and 1,223 strikeouts. In 2023, playing with the San Diego Padres, Snell had a league-leading 2.25 ERA and 234 strikeouts and became just the seventh player in league history to win CY Young awards in both the American League and National League.

By adding Blake Snell, the Giants have constructed one of the best rotations in NL. It also includes right-hander Logan Webb, who finished second behind Snell in CY Young voting last season, 2021 AL Cy Young winner Robbie Ray, top-rated prospect Kyle Harrison, and closer-turned-starter Jordan Hicks.

The New York Yankees’ ace Gerrit Cole is finally a Cy Young Award winner. The MLB unveiled Cole as a unanimous American League Cy Young Award on Tuesday, while San Diego Padres’ Blake Snell received the same honor in the National League.

Cole considered one of the best pitchers of his generation, received all 30 first-place votes from the BBWAA voting panel. The 33-year-old player finished second in the Cy Young Award voting in 2019 and 2021 while finishing in the Top 5 three more times.

Cole started 33 games in 2023, being one of the rare bright spots for the struggling Yankees. He pitched a total of 209 innings, finishing the campaign with a 15-4 record, 2.63 ERA, and 222 strikeouts.

Snell, on the other hand, received 28 first-place votes to win his second-career Cy Young Award. The 30-year-old right-hander is only the seventh pitcher to receive the honor in both AL and NL, having won his first Cy Young in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Rays. Arizona Diamondbacks’ Zac Gallen and San Francisco Giants’ Logan Webb got the two remaining first-place votes.

Snell had the MLB-leading 2.25 ERA in 2023 and was the only qualified pitcher below 2.50 ERA in the league. He went 14-9 in 32 starts and had 234 strikeouts.

After losing in the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Tampa Rays have reportedly just traded the one man who almost won it for them—Blake Snell.

The Rays traded their star starting pitcher to the San Diego Padres for four young prospects, in a move that suggests they’re possibly rebuilding for the future.

We last saw Snell when he was striking out multiple Dodger players in Game 6 of the 2020 World Series, in what may have been the greatest performance of his career.

What happened next boggled the minds of many, with Rays manager Kevin Cash taking Snell out of the game. The result was a Dodger victory, leading many to wonder what would have been had Snell stayed in the game.

Nevertheless, Snell is now set to be a Padre, and therefore has much to be excited about. He’ll join a star-studded cast of players, and thus may find himself in the playoffs once more.

The 2018 AL Cy Young winner is coming off a strong season, boasting a 3.24 ERA and an even better 3.03 postseason ERA. If he does anything close to that this season, the Padres should be pretty happy.

The Tampa Bay Rays appear to be ready to make some big roster moves after falling short in the 2020 World Series. According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Rays are willing to listen to offers for their ace pitcher Blake Snell this offseason.

Reportedly, Snell’s trade value, which is considerably high at the moment, and his earnings are the two main factors behind the Rays’ decision. The organization believes they could get some valuable assets in return while also creating badly needed financial flexibility by getting out of the 27-year-old Snell’s contract that pays him $39 million in the next three seasons.

Feinsand reports that the Seattle Mariners and the LA Angels are currently the two teams that have the most interest in Snell.

Mariners have a longtime business history with the Rays and also can make a good offer thanks to a plethora of prospects. The move would likely work out for Snell as well, considering he was born and raised in Seattle.

Angels, on the other hand, would like to boost their rotation, and there is no better way to do that than adding a former Cy Young winner to their roster. The only question is whether they have enough assets to pull off a deal like this.

Blake Snell made his MLB debut with Rays in 2016 and has since become one of the team’s most impactful pitchers. This was especially the case in the 2018 MLB season when he led the American League in wins and ERA while winning the Cy Young Award and receiving an All-Star nod.

Snell’s career stars include a 42-30 record, 3.24 ERA, and 648 strikeouts.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are World Series champions for the first time since 1988.

The Dodgers defeated the Tampa Bay Rays 3-1 to clinch the series in Game 6, getting the franchise its seventh title and first in over 30 years.

While nothing can be taken away from the great Dodgers team, many will remember Game 6 as a game that was lost by the Rays coaching staff.

Namely, Rays manager Kevin Cash pulled ace pitcher Blake Snell in the sixth inning, even though he was pitching lights out and obviously had plenty more in the tank.

This led to the Dodgers offense immediately taking advantage of Rays reliever Nick Anderson to take the lead.

While in the game, Snell dominated the Dodgers’ batters, holding them to two hits and striking out nine in 5 1/3 innings. Snell was pulled after Austin Barnes hit a single off him in the sixth inning. He had only thrown 73 pitches at that point.

Six pitches into Anderson’s time on the mound, the Rays 1-0 lead turned into a 2-1 deficit. Dodgers star Mookie Betts hit an insurance home run in the eighth, which was more than enough for the Dodgers to win the game and the title.

The win also gives future Hall of Fame pitcher Clayton Kershaw his first title, which was the only thing missing from his incredible MLB resume.

The Tampa Bay Rays and Los Angeles Dodgers now have one win apiece in the World Series after the Rays took Game 2 by a score of 6-4.

The Rays hopped out to an early 5-0 lead, which was enough for them to hold on and win the game. Tampa Bay was led by their reliable starting pitcher Blake Snell, and on the offensive side, by Brandon Lowe, whose bat finally woke up.

After driving in just two runs in Tampa’s first 15 playoff games, Lowe hit two home runs in Game 2 on Wednesday.

Snell pitched 4.75 innings, allowing two runs and striking out nine batters. The Rays already had a 5-0 lead when Snell gave up his first hit of the night.

He became the first pitcher to open a World Series game with six strikeouts in three hitless innings since “The Big Unit” Randy Johnson did the same in Game 2 of the 2001 World Series.

One thing that might be concerning for the Rays going deeper into the series is the performance of their reliever Nick Anderson, who has allowed a run in his last four attempts to close out a game.

While Major League Baseball is currently discussing options for beginning the 2020 season with players and owners, Tampa Bay Rays star pitcher Blake Snell doesn’t seem to be so keen on the league coming back this season.

The lefty hurler, while streaming video games on his Twitch account, responded to fans’ questions about the league’s discussions to start the league during the summer.

At this point in time, and under the proposals which have been proposed by the league, he feels that playing a reduced season for a reduced salary this season is “just not worth it” as a result of the fear surrounding a possible COVID-19 outbreak and/or infection.

Baseball’s top league has discussed the possibility of playing an 82-game regular season and a revenue-sharing agreement between owners and players that would see players’ salaries take a sharp drop.

“Y’all gotta understand, man, for me to go — for me to take a pay cut is not happening, because the risk is through the roof,” Snell said in response to the league’s proposal.

Snell, the 2018 AL Cy Young Award winner and the owner of a career 38-28 record with a 3.24 ERA, has not made it immediately clear how he would go about refusing to play if the league does get back up and running.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has forced the postponement of the beginning of the Major League Baseball season as teams remain apart and unable to practice due to social distancing guidelines.

Many activities, including working out and training, have filled these players’ days, but there has been time for a little bit of fun and competition.

MLB video game MLB The Show 20 was the perfect escape for 30 players from around the league who competed in a mini “Players League” that pitted virtual versions of all of the league’s teams in games against one another.

The playoffs, featuring the top eight teams from then regular season, took place this weekend with #1 seed and Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Blake Snell as the favorite to take home the crown.

After sweeping White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito in a 5-game series on Sunday, Snell showed that he is the best player in the league, at least when it comes to virtual action.

Snell, who finished the regular season with a 24-5 record with his Rays, swept Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux and took two of three from Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil to reach the final round.

6th seed Lucas Giolito was more of a surprise in the finals, as he upset third-seeded Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette and then advanced past Cubs utility man Ian Happ in the semifinals.

His luck came to an end on Sunday, however, as Snell swept him to claim the league’s first ever Players League title in what became a fun and needed distraction for baseball’s players and fans.
