The Tampa Bay Rays appear to be ready to make some big roster moves after falling short in the 2020 World Series. According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand, the Rays are willing to listen to offers for their ace pitcher Blake Snell this offseason.

Reportedly, Snell’s trade value, which is considerably high at the moment, and his earnings are the two main factors behind the Rays’ decision. The organization believes they could get some valuable assets in return while also creating badly needed financial flexibility by getting out of the 27-year-old Snell’s contract that pays him $39 million in the next three seasons.

Feinsand reports that the Seattle Mariners and the LA Angels are currently the two teams that have the most interest in Snell.

Mariners have a longtime business history with the Rays and also can make a good offer thanks to a plethora of prospects. The move would likely work out for Snell as well, considering he was born and raised in Seattle.

Angels, on the other hand, would like to boost their rotation, and there is no better way to do that than adding a former Cy Young winner to their roster. The only question is whether they have enough assets to pull off a deal like this.

Blake Snell made his MLB debut with Rays in 2016 and has since become one of the team’s most impactful pitchers. This was especially the case in the 2018 MLB season when he led the American League in wins and ERA while winning the Cy Young Award and receiving an All-Star nod.

Snell’s career stars include a 42-30 record, 3.24 ERA, and 648 strikeouts.

While Major League Baseball is currently discussing options for beginning the 2020 season with players and owners, Tampa Bay Rays star pitcher Blake Snell doesn’t seem to be so keen on the league coming back this season.

The lefty hurler, while streaming video games on his Twitch account, responded to fans’ questions about the league’s discussions to start the league during the summer.

At this point in time, and under the proposals which have been proposed by the league, he feels that playing a reduced season for a reduced salary this season is “just not worth it” as a result of the fear surrounding a possible COVID-19 outbreak and/or infection.

Baseball’s top league has discussed the possibility of playing an 82-game regular season and a revenue-sharing agreement between owners and players that would see players’ salaries take a sharp drop.

“Y’all gotta understand, man, for me to go — for me to take a pay cut is not happening, because the risk is through the roof,” Snell said in response to the league’s proposal.

Snell, the 2018 AL Cy Young Award winner and the owner of a career 38-28 record with a 3.24 ERA, has not made it immediately clear how he would go about refusing to play if the league does get back up and running.

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has forced the postponement of the beginning of the Major League Baseball season as teams remain apart and unable to practice due to social distancing guidelines.

Many activities, including working out and training, have filled these players’ days, but there has been time for a little bit of fun and competition.

MLB video game MLB The Show 20 was the perfect escape for 30 players from around the league who competed in a mini “Players League” that pitted virtual versions of all of the league’s teams in games against one another.

The playoffs, featuring the top eight teams from then regular season, took place this weekend with #1 seed and Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Blake Snell as the favorite to take home the crown.

After sweeping White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito in a 5-game series on Sunday, Snell showed that he is the best player in the league, at least when it comes to virtual action.

Snell, who finished the regular season with a 24-5 record with his Rays, swept Dodgers shortstop Gavin Lux and took two of three from Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil to reach the final round.

6th seed Lucas Giolito was more of a surprise in the finals, as he upset third-seeded Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette and then advanced past Cubs utility man Ian Happ in the semifinals.

His luck came to an end on Sunday, however, as Snell swept him to claim the league’s first ever Players League title in what became a fun and needed distraction for baseball’s players and fans.
