Ex-Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is enjoying his time away from soccer. And he isn’t planning to quit it short in order to take over reigning Seria A champions Napoli.

Napoli has been playing poorly so far in 2023-24, finding themselves in fifth place with four wins and 14 points in eight games. After title-winning manager Luciano Spalletti stepped away in the summer, the Italian club hired Rudi Garcia as his replacement, but it is turning out to be an underwhelming choice.

According to reports from Italian media outlets, Napoli is currently exploring options to replace Garcia and has Conte as their primary target. But the four-time Seria A-winning manager has rejected the rumors in a recent Instagram story, saying that he isn’t ready to return to coaching.

“I persistently hear market rumors that link me to important clubs, but I reiterate that for the time being, my wish is to stay put and enjoy my family,” Conte stated.

Antonio Conte has been unemployed since March when he left Tottenham in a controversial fashion. He previously coached Inter Milan, Chelsea, and Juventus, among other clubs, while also being at the helm of the Italian national team.

Conte’s managerial resume includes three Serie A titles with Juventus, one Seria A title with Inter, and one Premier League title with Chelsea.

Inter Milan didn’t take long to name their new manager after firing Luciano Spalletti on May 30th. Just a day later, the club announced that former Juventus and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte will take over the team for the next season.

Conte’s arrival at Inter will see him reuniting with CEO Giuseppe Marotta. The duo previously collaborated at Juve and managed to win three consecutive Seria A titles during that time.

“A new chapter in my life is beginning, I’m really excited,” – said Conte in a statement. “I have chosen Inter because of its history. I was struck by the club’s transparency and the desire to bring Inter back to where it belongs.”

Antonio Conte was without a club this past season, as he was involved in a legal battle with Chelsea. The Premier League powerhouse sacked him in 2018 and refused to pay the final year of his deal, citing that the manager violated his contract. Conte, on the other hand, argued that he was unfairly fired and ended up having the court rule in his favor.

The highlights of Conte’s managerial career include winning Serie B with Bari and three national titles with Juventus, alongside one Premier League and FA Cup trophy with Chelsea. He also served as the head coach of Italy’s national team.

Although Luciano Spalletti managed to qualify Inter for UEFA Champions League next season, the team felt that they needed a change in order to challenge Juventus for Seria A supremacy. Inter finished the previous two seasons under Spalletti on fourth place in the national competition. They have been eliminated in the group stage of the UCL this season.
