Andy Murray isn’t ready to walk away from tennis just yet. Murray, who is the former No.1 tennis player in the world, recently told reporters that he aims to compete in singles “at some stage this year,” following several doubles matches he is scheduled to play in the coming weeks.

Murray struggled with injuries and resulting pain for the previous two years and hinted at his possible retirement from the sport back in January. But, after hip surgery in January relieved him of pain, the 32-year-old Brit began plotting his return to competitive tennis.

“It’s baby steps just now,” – said Murray. “I’m feeling good, pretty much pain-free and enjoying just training, practicing, improving all the time just now.”

“I hope at some stage this year I would be able to get back to playing singles again,” – he added. “I’m not really interested in putting a time limit on it because I’m quite happy just now. So I don’t need to play singles after Wimbledon or at the US Open to — you know, enjoy doing what I’m doing just now.”

The last singles match Andy Murray had before the hiatus was the Australian Open first round match, which he lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in five sets.

Murray will team up with Feliciano Lopez for the Queen’s Club tournament next week, and also plans to compete at Wimbledon in doubles.
