To the surprise of no one, Clemson’s star quarterback Trevor Lawrence is declaring for the 2021 NFL draft after three spectacular seasons and one national championship with the program.

NFL executives have had their eye on Lawerence since he was in high school. His talent was confirmed in his first season at Clemson when he threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns as a true freshman to defeat Alabama and win the National Championship.

Lawrence made his announcement that he was leaving Clemson, despite having one more year of eligibility, with an emotional video message posted on Twitter:

There aren’t many players that come out of college viewed as perfect prospects, especially at the quarterback position, but Lawrence is one of them. Most believe that Lawrence is the best quarterback prospect since Andrew Luck was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 2012. Others believe he is the best since the Colts drafted future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning in 1998.

Lawrence is expected to land with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who have the first pick in the draft and need a savior to lift the franchise up after finishing the season with a miserable 1-15 record while starting three different quarterbacks over the course of a 15-game losing streak.

Luck was the no. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft and had big shoes to fill as he was picked to replace Peyton Manning. His promising career got off to a great start as he led the Colts back to the playoffs in his first 3 NFL seasons, including an appearance in the AFC Championship game in 2014.

Luck’s career took a bad turn when he suffered an unlucky injury at the beginning of the 2015 season. Kidney, rib, and shoulder injuries caused him to miss parts of the next season and the entire 2017 season.

He had a great turnaround year last year in which he threw for 39 touchdowns and 4,593 yards, winning the Comeback Player of the Year award and leading the Colts back to the playoffs for the first time since 2014. He proved how valuable he was to the team and Indianapolis thought they had their star quarterback for many years to come.

Another injury this year, this time a calf strain, limited his practice ability and caused him to sit out most of training camp because of pain and immobility. In his announcement, Luck said that injuries have taken away his love of the game, and in the constant cycle of rehab and pain, it was too hard for him to continue.

This comes as a big hit to the Colts playoff hopes this season and beyond, as Luck was the centerpiece of their offense. They now have 2 weeks to get their team ready for the start of the season and will turn to 26-year-old Jacoby Brissett to lead them at the quarterback position.

Quarterback Andrew Luck logged 285 yards and three touchdowns on Sunday as the Indianapolis Colts overpowered the Tennessee Titans 33-17 to clinch the sixth playoff spot.

With the Houston Texans having already won the AFC South title with a win over the Jaguars, it was up to the Colts or the Titans to grab the second wild-card. The Titans were the favorite to win but that didn’t matter to Luck and the Colts who played solidly throughout the match.

Surprisingly, the Colts ranked last in week six after a 1-5 start into this season. By Sunday, not only had they achieved the impossible but Luck had a new record: 11 wins for a quarterback against one opponent. The playoff berth was also good news to manager Frank Reich who was only hired this year.

With quarterback Marcus Mariota sidelined with injuries, the Titans found themselves struggling for the better part of the game. By the time the game ended, Tennessee not only snapped their four-game winning streak but they missed the playoffs.

Of course, all credits goes to the Colts after the impeccable match. Running back Marlon Mack ran for 119 yards and had one touchdown. Luck was simply amazing, shredding through the top-rated Titans defense until the end. With the win, the Colts are into the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

Although he didn’t look great in the 19-20 defeat against Baltimore Ravens on Monday, Luck showed that he can handle the intensity of an NFL game and most importantly, get hit and bounce back.

The 28-year-old even said that he was “sort of happy” to get sacked by Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs.

“I told someone after the game, ‘I’m sort of happy to get sacked by Suggs, a legit sack,'” – said Luck after the game. “I landed on my right elbow sort of reminiscent of how I injured my shoulder a couple of years ago [in Week 3 of the 2015 season]. I didn’t feel anything. Didn’t give it a second thought. That’s a big deal for me, being able to lose that thought bubble.”

“I’m very, very encouraged,” – he added. “How I feel. I feel great.“

After not playing a single game in almost 600 days, Andrew Luck made the return in the Colts’ first preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks completing 6 of 9 passes for 64 yards. After undergoing a right shoulder surgery after 2016 NFL season, Andrew Luck still hasn’t returned to the field. The Indianapolis Colts already ruled him for the remainder of 2017 season, although there were some talks that he could return in 2017. In November, Luck went to Europe in order to get additional treatment for his shoulder, and it looks like it worked. He spent six weeks working in the Netherlands with a trainer, and now thinks he will not require another surgery.

“My gut and my feeling tells me that I do not need another surgery,” – said Luck. “I think I need to work more and to stay on this straight and narrow, if you will. I don’t want to sound like throwing is the test. I’m doing well, and I will continue to do well. That’s how I feel today.“

Luck returned to practices in September, but continuing pain in the right shoulder forced him to seek additional treatment. Although the 28-year-old quarterback says he is feeling good, the real test will come in January, when he starts throwing the ball; something he didn’t do since October. In case that he undergoes another surgery, Luck will be sidelined at least six more months.

For now, however, he plans to be ready for the next season.

“I believe in the process I’m in right now.” – added Luck. “I’ve got great help and hope to continue to get better. I plan on being ready for everything — everything official, NFL offseason, schedule. … I plan on being ready.“
