When he recently announced his departure from Australia’s Sydney Kings, veteran center Andrew Bogut said that he is still not ready to retire. Bogut now reiterated his intention to continue playing basketball in a chat with SBS Sport, even admitting that he is eyeing a return to the NBA.

Bogut told the media outlet that he believes he still has “a little bit of fuel left in the tank” and that there is interest for him among NBA teams.

“I had NBA offers right before the COVID-19 pandemic, where I was potentially going to go back after the NBL season,” said Bogut. “I was talking to a few teams that wanted me to come over.”

The 35-year-old intends to take up one of these offers in 2020/21, although he expects to find a roster spot a bit later in the season.

“Yes, especially halfway through the season when the buyout and trade season comes up,” Bogut explained when asked whether he’ll pursue an NBA comeback. “It saves me having to spend the whole season over there and I can kind of join someone late, like I did with the Warriors last time.”

Bogut also added that he hopes to “make a playoff run” and then play at the Olympics with Australia’s national team. This is when he will presumably retire, as he talked about that scenario in some previous interviews.

Andrew Bogut was No.1 overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft by Milwaukee Bucks. He spent more than 13 years in the NBA, also playing with Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers. Bogut won the NBA title with Warriors in 2015 and has one All-NBA Third-Team selection.

Long-time NBA big man and former first overall pick Andrew Bogut had stated that his plan was to retire from the game of basketball after this summer’s Tokyo Olympics before this season started.

However, with the coronavirus pandemic causing the delay of the Games until the summer of 2021, Bogut has now been forced to decide whether he will continue training to play for Team Australia or hang up his sneakers beforehand.

According to Bogut, he is strongly considering the possibility of retiring this summer before having one final chance to play for his country.

Bogut was the first overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft to the Milwaukee Bucks. He spent seven seasons playing for the franchise that drafted him, leading the league in blocks in the 2010-2011 season and being named a first-team All-Rookie selection in his debut season.

The Australian center then spent time five seasons playing for the Golden State Warriors primarily as a role and bench player, where he won the first and only NBA Championship of his career in 2015.

After bouncing around the league, Bogut returned to play in his native Australia for the Sydney Kings, where he was named league MVP in 2019.

Now, Bogut seems to be leaning towards the possibility of never returning to the court, but fans will just have to wait and see what decision he ultimately makes.

It appears that Australian center Andrew Bogut could return to the NBA once again and make another championship run with the Golden State Warriors. According to several media outlets, Bogut, who just wrapped up Australia’s NBL season with Sydney Kings, is close to signing a deal with the Warriors and filling the team’s last available roster spot.

Andrew Bogut previously played with Golden State from 2012 and 2016 and managed to win an NBA title during that period. He then had stints with Dallas Mavericks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Los Angeles Lakers before deciding to return to Australia.

Bogut had a successful 2018/19 season with Sidney Kings, being named NBL’s Most Valuable Player while averaging 11.6 points per game. He was also named Best Defensive Player and managed to get All-NBL First Team honors.

Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr talked about the possibility of adding Bogut to the team and said he would welcome the move.

“I’m not going to go into kind of our needs and all that,” – said Kerr said earlier in the week. “Just cut right to the chase and tell you that we have been talking to Bogut and his representatives and nothing is official. And there’s things that have to happen and we can’t really comment on it until it’s official. The other question [about how he fits] I’ll answer at the appropriate time.”

NBA veteran Andrew Bogut has decided to continue his basketball career in his native Australia, signing with NBL’s Sydney Kings. The team has confirmed their acquisition of 33-year-old center via social media.

In line with player contracting procedures, the Sydney Kings have submitted to NBL head office appropriate paperwork for Andrew Bogut for review and processing. The Kings will make no further comment but will provide an update in due course.” – said the team in a statement on Monday.

After returning from a broken leg injury in September 2017, Andrew Bogut decided to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers. He ended up playing in 24 games for the struggling Lakers, averaging 9.0 minutes, 1.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.

Lakers released Bogut in January, one day before his contract would become fully guaranteed for the rest of the season. It was expected that the player will join a playoff contender, but he eventually decided to return to Australia and focus on getting ready for the 2018-19 NBA season.

The body’s feeling good right now,” – Bogut told ESPN a few weeks ago. “I still feel like I’ve got a couple of good years left in me that I can play at a high level. I don’t feel I’m in a position to play 40 or 35 minutes a night, that’s a bit extreme with my injury history, but I think 15-20 a night off the bench is definitely a goal I am looking towards.

Andrew Bogut was drafted in the league by Milwaukee Bucks, who took him first overall in 2005 NBA Draft. After seven seasons with the Bucks, he was traded to the Golden State Warriors where he ended up playing a crucial role in team’s run for NBA Championship in 2015. Bogut also played for Dallas Mavericks and Cleveland Cavaliers during his 13-year NBA career.

Andrew Bogut won’t become a member of Boston Celtics as many believed. Instead, there are reports that he has agreed to a 1 year, $2.3 million veteran-minimum deal with the LA Lakers. This has been revealed to Shams Charania of The Vertical by Bogut’s agent David Bauman.

Charania discusses that there are several reasons why Bogut choose the Lakers instead some other teams. He will reunite with coach Luke Walton who previously served as an assistant with the Golden State Warriors during Bogut’s time there, while also becoming a part of a team with a talented young roster that includes Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram. Of course, there is also an honor that comes with wearing a Lakers’ jersey. Still, Bogut’s decision is an interesting one, since reportedly some better-positioned teams expressed interest in his services including San Antonio Spurs and the Boston Celtics. While he wouldn’t be a starter with these teams, he shouldn’t expect some more prominent role with the Lakers as well, especially since they already have Brook Lopez as their primary big man. Lakers certainly got a good addition with Bogut, who brings a championship experience and needed guidance to this young team. This is of course if Bogut manages to stay healthy.

A few days ago, Bogut’s agent went public saying that his client is healthy and ready to begin playing basketball. Bauman told to TNT’s David Aldridge that “CT on Bogut’s tibia shows complete healing“, and that “radiology report shows leg is solidly united“.

After Warriors lost the 2016 NBA Finals to Cleveland Cavaliers, Bogut was traded to the Dallas Mavericks so the team would free up the cap space required to sign Kevin Durant. Bogut only played 26 games with the Mavericks and was traded to Philadelphia 76ers. After the 76ers waived Bogut, he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers as a man who could put them over the Durant fronted Warriors. Spell with the Cavs turned to be a short one since Bogut suffered a fractured tibia in his debut for the Cavaliers.

Speaking to TNT’s David Aldridge, Bauman said that “CT on Bogut’s tibia shows complete healing“, and that “radiology report shows leg is solidly united“. Bogut suffered a fractured tibia after colliding with a Miami Heat player in his debut for Cleveland Cavaliers on March 6, 2017.

Aldridge also noted that Bogut will return to the United States and hopes to land a contract, with multiple teams eyeing him as an addition to their squad. According to the Bleacher Report, Boston Celtics have shown great interest in the 32 years old center. San Antonio Spurs, Milwaukee Bucks, and Utah Jazz supposedly also expressed interest in signing the player. Bogut certainly thinks he can still provide value for the team that decides to take him.

If you look at a lot of the teams with stretch fives, a lot of them have rebounding issues generally” – said Bogut while speaking for NBA.com and Steve Aschburner. “I know it’s not a max market for big guys, but you can still make a decent living from doing the little things. I like to think I do a lot of good things that go unnoticed as well. Teams I’ve played for, teams that have played against me know the value I have.

Andrew Bogut entered the NBA after Milwaukee Bucks drafted him with the first overall pick in 2005 NBA draft. Although he was a solid performer for the Bucks, being named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team, he only led the team to one playoff appearance during 7 seasons. After being traded to the Golden State Warriors in 2012, Bogut went to have a prominent role helping the team to win the NBA title in 2015 and reach the NBA Finals in 2016. The Warriors traded Bogut to the Dallas Mavericks in order to free up salary cap for Kevin Durant. After playing 26 games for the Mavericks, he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, who waived him. As a free agent, Bogut signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers, but the Cavs also waived him after he got injured.
