After Lucas Giolito of the cross-town White Sox threw a no-hitter on August 25th, Alec Mills of the Cubs held the Milwaukee Brewers without a hit in Sunday’s 12-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, throwing the 305th no-hit game in the league’s long history.

Mills, who had started only 6 games in the Majors prior to this season, tossed a gem and allowed only three Brewers hitters to reach base in his outstanding performance at Miller Park.

The Tennessee native, who finally broke through as a key starter in the division-leading Cubs’ rotation this season, worked through a lineup with star players such as Christian Yelich and Ryan Braun, using a steady diet of sinkers and off-speed pitchers to keep Milwaukee’s hitters off-balance.

While Mills struck out only 5 hitters, walking 3, it seemed impossible for the Brewers to square him up in the matinee matchup.

Mills reacted after the game with astonishment, saying, “It hasn’t really hit me yet. I didn’t really know how to celebrate. Just something that came together today.”

The righty’s nine no-hit innings and win on Sunday brought season record to 5-3 with a 3.93 ERA. He’ll have his next shot on the mound this weekend in the Cubs’ series with Minnesota.
