In a surprising social media announcement on Thursday, Norwegian forward Adama Diomande revealed that he is leaving LAFC. According to the 30-year-old forward, he made the decision in order to deal with “family priorities.”

“I have put a lot of thought into this decision and have come to the conclusion that it will be the best for all parties,” Diomande wrote on Twitter. “I would like to thank the club for [its] understanding and our enthusiastic fans. From the bottom of my heart I will never forget [these] valuable experiences and moments that we shared on and off the field.”

LAFC confirmed Diomande’s exit shortly after, saying that the two parties “mutually agreed” to part way.

Since coming to MLS in 2018, Adama Diomande emerged as a valuable contributor for LAFC. Often serving as a backup striker, Diomande managed to score 20 goals and add 11 assists in just 44 games. He also added two goals in two postseason appearances.

Without Diomande, LAFC is now expected to turn to offseason acquisition Bradley Wright-Phillips, at least as a temporary solution. Considering that the team now has close to $1 million available, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they add more attacking fire power in the near future.

LAFC will enter the new MLS season without an important piece of their roster. The team’s head coach Bob Bradley confirmed on Wednesday that forward Adama Diomande is set to miss time due to foot fracture.

According to Bradley, Diomande got injured last week during the preseason match against NYCFC. Still, he believes that the 29-year-old Norwegian will heal just fine.

“We’ll miss him at the beginning of the season,” Bradley said. “But we’re confident that this is an injury that will heal in a strong way, and he’ll be back and ready to contribute.”

Adama Diomande joined LAFC in 2018 from Premier League side Hull City. He had a strong first year in MLS, scoring 12 goals and dishing four assists in just 18 games. Last season, however, Diomande’s production in front of the goal dipped despite increased playing time. He scored eight goals but was generous when it comes to assists, finishing 2019 with seven.

Diomande is also a member of Norway’s national team since 2015 and has scored one goal in 11 matches.
