In a move that surprised absolutely nobody, the New York Jets decided to fire their head coach Adam Gase.

Gase leaves the franchise after overseeing consecutive losing seasons and posting a 9-23 record as the Jets’ head coach.

The team confirmed the news on social media on Sunday, making the move official shortly after the Jets suffered a 28-14 loss to the New England Patriots in their final game of 2020.

Gase was considered to be on the hot seat last season as well, but the promising finish of 2019, which saw the team win six out of their final eight games, made the franchise believe they could be on the right track.

However, this turned out to be an anomaly, as the Jets opened 2020 with 13 straight losses, setting the record for the longest winless streak in franchise history. Gase also failed to live up to his reputation as an offensive genius, considering that the Jets were the worst-ranked offense in the league for the second year in a row.

Gase’s time with the Jets was also marked by his bad relationship with some of the team’s high-profile players, including safety Jamal Adams and running back Le’Veon Bell, both of whom left the franchise on bad terms. He also reportedly played a big part in the firing of general manager Mike Maccagn.

Reportedly, the Jets’ search for a new head coach will be headlined by CEO Christopher Johnson, general manager Joe Douglas, and team president Hymie Elhai. Douglas is expected to make the suggestion, but Johnson will have the final say.

The New York Jets are looking like one of the worst—if not the worst—team in football this season. And while many are already calling for the head of coach Adam Gase, according to reports close to the team, his job is safe for now.

Even though the team looks terrible in nearly every phase, the organization will remain patient with Gase, with some reports claiming that Gase will most likely remain the coach because it’s the best thing to do for New York’s young quarterback Sam Darnold at this time.

Dropping their fourth game in a row to start the season, the Jets lost to the Denver Broncos, who were starting their third-string quarterback Brett Rypien.

Even though the game didn’t end in a blowout like the first three, it was still painful to watch for Jets fans. New York ended up blowing a fourth-quarter lead, mainly due to their undisciplined play. They had 11 penalties for 118 yards on the night, six of which were personal fouls.

The Jets offense went 0-3 in the red zone and Darnold had another nightmare game in the pocket, getting sacked six times. Darnold had to exit the game for a bit after a brutal sack in which he was tossed to the ground violently, spraining his shoulder.

Unfortunately for everyone, especially Gase and Darnold, the Jets schedule will only get harder from here on. They face the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Chargers, Buffalo Bills, and the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs over the next four weeks, making an 0-8 start to the season all but inevitable with the way the team is playing right now.

New York Jets’ star safety Jamal Adams continues to do his best to alienate himself from the organization in an attempt to force a trade. This time, he decided to take a jab at his head coach Adam Gase.

In a recent interview with New York Daily News, Adams criticized Gase and said that he isn’t the right leader for the Jets organization.

“I don’t feel like he’s the right leader for this organization to reach the Promised Land,” said Adams. “As a leader, what really bothers me is that he doesn’t have a relationship with everybody in the building.”

Adams didn’t miss the opportunity to voice his displeasure with general manager Joe Douglas as well, blasting him for the way he handled the recent contract negotiations.

“It was very insulting,” Adams added.

Jamal Adams officially asked the New York Jets to trade him back in June after the organization didn’t give him a contract extension he wants. However, Jets have been taking the slow and steady approach with the matter, as they have him under contract for three more years with the franchise tag included.

Reportedly, Jets are willing to consider offers for the All-Pro but expect a big return that would include at least two first-round picks and several more assets. The list of interested teams includes Houston Texans, Seattle Seahawks, and Dallas Cowboys.

Adams finished the 2019 season with 75 tackles, 6.5 sacks, seven pass deflections, one interception, and one touchdown. He earned his second Pro Bowl selection and was selected First-Team All-Pro for the first time in his career.

New York Jets are not having a great season in 2019, as they currently find themselves at the bottom of AFC East with 2-7 record. Despite this, however, the team remains confident in the coaching staff and head coach Adam Gase. So confident, in fact, that they are already guaranteeing him job safety through 2020.

Jets’ owner Christopher Johnson had a brief chat with reporters after Wednesday’s practice and told them that Gase won’t be fired no matter how this season ends. He also assured them that Jets’ will keep the same coach next season as well.

“I want to assure you there will be no changes in coaches here,” – said Johnson. “Adam has the trust of this team. He has the trust of Sam [Darnold]. He has Joe [Douglas’] trust. He has my trust. He’s a good man. He’s a good coach.”

New York Jets brought in Adam Gase in January despite the fact that he was coming off an unsuccessful stint with Miami Dolphins, where he posted 23–26 record. Gase was supposed to lift the team’s offense and to help turn around the organization, but he hasn’t had much success in that so far.

Jets are currently rank dead last in NFL in total offense while ranking in top three in turnovers this season. Gase also failed to bring out the best out of second-year quarterback Sam Darnold, whose numbers are down compared to his rookie season.

While Gase has the owner’s supports, for now, he shouldn’t be too relaxed. If the Jets continue to go down the same road, Johnson could easily change his mind and bring in another coach.

The New York Jets are expected to hire former Miami Dolphins manager Adam Gase as their new head coach, league sources confirmed on Thursday. The Jets will also interview former Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph for the same role.

The Jets, who also have an open position for the defensive coordinator, are reportedly considering to hire former Cleveland Browns interim head coach Gregg Williams for the position. For the offensive coordinator role, the Jets plan to hire Dowell Loggains, the man with whom Gase worked with in Miami.

Gase was fired by the Dolphins last month. On Tuesday, Jets’ CEO Christopher Johnson received a call from former legendary quarterback Peyton Manning advocating for Gase. Ironically, the Jets are one of the few NFL teams Gase beat 5 or more times in his three years at Miami. Gase holds a 5-1 record against the Jets, and now he’s about to join them.

Before joining Miami, Gase was Peyton’s personal coach between 2012 and 2014 while the quarterback played for the Broncos. He later became Jay Cutler’s coach in 2015. In New York, Gase will replace Todd Boyles, the recently fired coach who compiled a record of only 24-40 in four seasons.
