]]>Detroit Red Wings announced on Wednesday that they have acquired forward Adam Erne in a trade with Tampa Bay Lightning. In return, Lighting received a fourth round pick in 2020 NHL Entry Draft.
Erne is a restricted free agent this offseason, and he is expected to enter contract negotiations with his new team soon. Red Wings currently have $4.57 million in cap space they can use to sign the 24-year-old.
The move sees Erne reuniting with Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman, who drafted him 33rd overall in 2013. Yzerman served at the same position with Tampa Bay at the time.
Adam Erne made his NHL debut in 2016–17 season, but didn’t become a regular starter for Lightning until the last season. In 2018/19 he played 65 games and contributed with 20 points while also ranking third on the team with 159 hits.
Erne’s career over the past three years includes 13 goals and 14 assists in 114 games played.
Erne also has experience with Team USA as he participated with the national team on Hlinka Gretzky Cup and IIHF Ice Hockey World Junior Championship.
