Mexican striker Alan Pulido will continue bringing joy to Sporting Kansas City fans for years to come. The MLS side announced that Pulido signed an extension that will keep him with the club through the 2026 season.

Pulido, who was set to become a free agent after 2023, will keep his Designated Player status with a new contract. The 32-year-old is currently Sporting’s highest-paid player with a $2.2 million base salary.

Pulido is currently enjoying an MVP-worthy season, scoring 13 goals and adding three assists in 23 games. His great form and expiring contract made him a target for other MLS teams, which is why Sporting Kansas City decided to act swiftly and ensure he doesn’t go anywhere.

“… I think this is a great relationship in that he knows how much we would like him to be here, I know how much he enjoys it here,” said Sporting’s head coach Vermes. “And the fact that we were able to come to an agreement that we all feel good about is great, because at the end it comes down to us both wanting the same thing, and that is we both want to be successful, we want to win, and there’s no doubt he has those qualities.”

Sporting Kansas City acquired Alan Pulido in a $9.5 million transfer from Guadalajara in 2020, making him the most expensive signing in the club’s history. After a promising start to his MLS career, Pulido was forced to miss the entire 2022 campaign due to a knee injury. He recovered in time to start the 2023 season and is now playing better than ever.
