Steelers Expected to Name Omar Khan as New GM

Multiple sources have revealed that Omar Khan is the frontrunner in the race to be named as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ next general manager. Having been with the organization for over two decades, Khan started out as the Steelers’ football operations coordinator in 2001 before being promoted to director of football administration in 2011.

For the past six years, the 45-year-old manager has served as the Steelers’ vice president of football and business administration. One of Khan’s main responsibilities was to be the team’s lead contract negotiator and manager of the Steelers’ salary cap.

With the Steelers highly expected to go through with this appointment, it is believed that Philadelphia Eagles vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl will be appointed as the team’s assistant general manager.

Khan has been considered the Steelers’ favorite choice after an extensive talent search. In order to be considered for the role, Khan attended two rounds of interviews, making him just one of six candidates who were able to secure an interview with Steelers president Art Rooney II.

The search for a new general manager commenced after incumbent GM Kevin Colbert announced his decision to step down from the role after two decades. Clobert confirmed that he will still make himself available to the team in an advisory role following his resignation.
