Veteran cornerback Joe Haden and Pittsburgh Steelers have been engaged in contract extension talks for the better part of the offseason, but the two sides still haven’t managed to get the deal done. Despite this, however, Haden remains optimistic.

Talking with reporters on Tuesday, Haden, who is entering the final year of his contract with Steelers, said that he is hopeful about getting the extension in the next couple of days.

“We’re still working,” – said Haden via Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “It’s been a long process. I’m still optimistic, still hoping that everything goes down.”

But, the 30-year-old   is also aware of the fact that Steelers don’t negotiate contracts once the season starts.

“The time is ticking. We’ve got a couple days, and we’ll figure it out.” – he added.

Joe Haden joined the Steelers in 2017, signing a three-year, $27 million contract with the organization. Although he hasn’t been on his All-Pro form from 2013, Haden still established himself as an important part of Pittsburgh defense in the last couple of years.

During his time with Steelers, Haden started 26 games and contributed with 83 tackles, 1.0 sacks, one interception, 18 passes defended and one forced fumble.

Haden previously played with Cleveland Browns, where he spent the first seven years of his career and had two Pro Bowl appearances.
