The Pittsburgh Steelers finally addressed their glaring lack of depth at the corner position. On Friday, the franchise announced the acquisition of veteran Ahkello Witherspoon, who arrives as a result of a trade with the Seattle Seahawks.

The Steelers gave up a 2023 fifth-round pick to Seattle and will make the deal official once Witherspoon passes his medical. In order to open a roster spot, the team released defensive lineman Henry Mondeaux.

The trade ends Witherspoon’s stint with the Seahawks after just six months. The 26-year-old player inked a one-year, $4 million deal with Seattle in March but failed to make a strong bid for the starting spot. This, alongside the emergence of some other players, prompted the Seahawks to test the market and see what they can get for him.

Witherspoon might not be a candidate to start in Pittsburgh either, but he should see some quality playing time. Entering the week, the Steelers had four corners on their roster, out of which only Cam Sutton and Joe Haden saw significant action in NFL.

Ahkello Witherspoon, who was a third-round pick in 2017, spent the four previous seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He played 47 games (33 starts) during that time, totaling 117 tackles, 24 passes defended, four interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
