While it turned out that their starting tight end Vance McDonald won’t be missing time following a shoulder injury, Pittsburg Steelers still decided not to take any chances. The team announced on Wednesday that they have acquired TE Nick Vannett from Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2020’s fifth-rounder.

Vannett, who was Seattle’s third-round pick in 2016, was targeted five times so far in the season and has four receptions and 38 yards to show for.

“Thank you Seattle! You welcomed in a kid from Ohio with open arms and showed nothing but the best support from day 1,” – Vannett wrote on social media. “It’s been an honor to wear the blue and green the last few years. No feelings but love and gratitude for the Seahawk organization and the city of Seattle!”

Since entering the league, Vannett played a total of 42 games and managed to catch 48 passes for 463 yards. He also added four receiving touchdowns.

Steelers decided to make a deal for Nick Vannett after McDonald was forced to leave their Sunday’s game against San Francisco 49ers with a shoulder injury. Although it turned out that the veteran TE isn’t seriously hurt, Pittsburgh still went through with the trade, wanting to provide their inexperienced new starting quarterback Mason Rudolph with more weapons.
