The St. Louis Cardinals won their 14th consecutive competitive game on Friday night, defeating the Chicago Cubs 12-4 on Saturday. This victory sees the Cardinals tie with their all-time record for consecutive wins. The last time that the Cardinals achieved this feat was back in 1935.

The Cardinals have become the eighth team in history to record a 14-game win streak or better in September or later.

“Everybody is kind of feeding off each other’s energy right now,” outfielder Lars Nootbar said of his team’s peak form this season. “You want to join the party, kind of. When you’re loose and playing your game, you think you can beat anybody.”

Currently, the Cardinals sit in second place on the National Central League standings, having won 85 games and lost 69.

The only piece of negative news facing the Cardinals as of late is the injury of shortstop Edmundo Sosa during Game 1 of the clash with the Cubs. Sosa, who was hit in the hand by a pitch, underwent X-Rays that produced a negative result. Fortunately, no fracture was found, meaning that Sosa may be able to return to the field shortly.
