Spurs to Add Benfica Striker Carlos Vinicius on Loan

Tottenham Hotspur is on the verge of adding Benfica striker Carlos Vinicius on loan for the 2020-21 season on a deal which includes a reported purchase option.

Spurs, who have been looking for more help for their frontline at the behest of coach Jose Mourinho, appear to have found their man in the Brazilian striker who shined with Benfica last season.

Vinicius, who joined Benfica last summer for a $20 million fee from Monaco, burst onto the scene with the Portuguese giants. He recorded 18 goals in 32 Liga NOS appearances along with 5 goals in the domestic cup and a goal in the UEFA Champions League.

He finished the 2019-20 season as Portugal’s top Liga NOS goal scorer.

Vinicius is set to become Spurs’ second striking option behind star player Harry Kane. The 25-year-old Brazilian has long been described as a player who could shine in England due to his large, strong frame and powerful left foot.

Spurs’ purchase option for Vinicius after his season-long loan has reportedly been set at around $53 million, which could end up being a bargain if he adapts and plays well during this season in England.

Tottenham is set to announce the new signing in the upcoming days with the hopes of incorporating their new striker into their squad next week.
