Tottenham Hotspur defeated Fulham 2-0 on Monday night in order to reach the summit of the Premier League table. With a two-point buffer at the top of the table, this is Spurs’ best start to the league season in over 60 years.
“It was a good result because Fulham are a tough team to break down,” Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou said after the game. “You have to respect the game and if you are off it a little bit it can drag you down. We took a few liberties which I wasn’t very happy with. It was our worst 45 minutes with the ball.”
Postecoglou was unhappy with the way that his lineup conducted themselves in the second half. The first half saw an energetic performance by the home team, with Son Heung-Min scoring the opener in the 36th minute. While James Maddison doubled the Spurs’ lead in the 54th minute, it was a largely muted second-half performance where Spurs displayed a relatively low-energy performance.
