Another proven Premier League veteran is making its way to MLS. Sporting KC announced over the weekend that they had signed New Zealand international defender Winston Reid from West Ham United.

According to the announcement, Reid joins Sporting on loan until the end of the season. It’s unclear whether the club has an option to make the move permanent if he does well in the United States. According to hamers.news, West Ham is looking to sell the player to whomever they can in order to get out of 31-year-old’s big contract.

Reid hasn’t made a single appearance in Premier League this season, having spent most of his time with the club’s reserve team.

For years, Winston Reid has been an integral part of West Ham’s squad and even served as a team’s captain. Since joining the club in 2010, Ried played more than 220 games with the club and has scored 10 goals. However, recent years proved to be troublesome for him.

Ried struggled with injuries in the last two seasons, having knee issues, and failed to make a single appearance for the club during that time. His last competitive game came during 2017/18 when he made 17 Premier League appearances.

Despite the lack of games in recent years, Reid was quite sought-after among MLS clubs, with reportedly Nashville considering making a move for him. Still, Sporting KC made the first move, and now they will have a significant addition to their roster.

Reid is New Zealand international since 2010 and captains the team. He made 25 appearances since then and scored once.
