Spain lifted the 2024 EURO trophy after beating England 2-1 in the finals of the tournament. This was the record-fourth European Championship win for Spain as they broke a tie with Germany.

After the scoreless first 45 minutes, Spain got the lead at the opening of the second half. Wonderkid Lamine Yamal made a cut from the right and dished the ball to Nico Williams, who sent it past Jordan Pickford with a precise ground shot.

England’s manager, Gareth Southgate, responded with a couple of substitutes, introducing Ollie Watkins and Cole Palmer, and the move quickly paid off. Just three minutes after entering the pitch, Palmer received a ball from Jude Bellingham outside the penalty area and scored a beautiful long-distance goal.

However, Spain had the last word in the 86th minute. Marc Cucurella sent a ground pass into the penalty box, where Mikel Oyarzabal guided the ball to the net while narrowly staying onside.

England tried to respond once again, but their attacks proved futile, and Spain could start celebrating its big win.

Spain was a deserved winner of the EURO 2024, going undefeated and only needing extra time once in the quarter-finals against Germany. The Spaniards also scored 15 goals throughout the tournament, the most by any team in European Championship history.

England, on the other hand, has been met with another major disappointment, having lost two consecutive EURO finals.
