Southampton officially announced the signing of center-back Mohammed Salisu on Wednesday, bringing in a key piece that they hope will become the cornerstone of the club’s defense for years to come.

Salisu, who at 21 years old, has been one of the breakout stars of La Liga over the past two seasons with Real Valladolid, joins Southampton after agreeing to a four-year contract with the English club.

Southampton reportedly paid the Ghanian center back’s $14 million release clause, which allowed them to negotiate a contract with the blossoming star.

The 21-year-old player appeared in 33 games for Valladolid in the 2019-20 season, becoming one of the leaders of a team defense that allowed only 43 goals last season, the sixth-lowest total in the league.

Known for his intimidating physical presence and large physique, Salisu has blossomed from a raw prospect into one of the continent’s top young defensive stars.

He is expected to play a key role at Southampton over the coming season as the team looks to break through into European contention after the team finished in 11th place in 2019-20.

Salisu has joined the team’s preseason training sessions and is expected to make his debut with the club next month.

Gunner's favorite movies are Pulp Fiction, Iron Man (just the first one), and every James Bond film ever made. He's learning TV and cinema and hoping to always enjoy movies as he does now.
