Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-Min criticized his team for being too “soft” after they slumped to a 2-1 defeat at home to West Ham United. With this loss, Spurs made history by becoming the first Premier League team to drop points after taking the lead in five consecutive matches.

“We lost the game which is unacceptable,” Son remarked. “You get the lead five times in a row and losing the game I think is unacceptable and as players we should take responsibility. West Ham have always been tough to play against but look we were soft. Especially in the Premier League, even if you are winning 2-0, 3-0, you don’t know what will happen in the end.”

Spurs sprung into the lead after 11 minutes of play when defender Christian Romero found the back of the net with a glancing header. While the home team continued to dominate the game for the rest of the first half, they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities; a shortcoming that they would ultimately regret.

Despite remaining on the backfoot, the Hammers proved opportunistic, with Jarred Bowen and James Ward-Prowse both finding the back of the net to hand West Ham the unlikely win.
