Despite having just 17 WNBA games on her resume, Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese has already etched her name in the league’s history book.
In a 62-70 loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Sunday, Reese recorded 10 points and 16 rebounds. This was her 10th straight double-double and marked a record for most consecutive double-doubles in a single WNBA season. She broke the record previously held by Candace Parker, who had nine consecutive double-doubles in 2015.
Reese left it late to accomplish this impressive feat. With a minute left in the fourth quarter, the LSU product needed three points for a double-double. She went on to miss two shots in the paint but collected the rebound both times and scored after a third attempt. Reese then split a pair of free throws after a loose ball foul to get to double digits in points and officially capture the record.
Reese has been having a strong rookie campaign after Sky selected her with the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft and is currently averaging 13.3 points and 11.4 rebounds per game.
“Just proud of her. Proud of what she does,” said Sky coach Teresa Witherspoon of Reese’s achievement. “I’m sure she would say the win was more important. She’s gonna continue to do what she does, that’s who she is, she’s always gonna come out and play hard and confident and give you everything that she has.”
