The San Francisco Giants are making changes this offseason, beginning with hiring a new general manager that will join forces with President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi.

The Giants and Zaidi have chosen Scott Harris, formerly a part of the Chicago Cubs’ organization, as their new general manager. He will serve as the second man in charge in the Giants’ front office, and will take charge in the handling of day-to-day operations.

Harris goes to San Francisco after spending the past seven seasons as a member of the Chicago Cubs’ front office, where he was Assistant General Manager under GM Jed Hoyer.

The Bay Area native will become one of the youngest general managers in the history of Major League Baseball at the age of 32. While he will be working directly under Zaidi, it’s still an incredible achievement for an executive of such a young age to be given a position like this.

Harris will be tasked with helping the Giants get back to contention after a few seasons adrift. After winning the World Series in 2010, 2012, and 2014, San Francisco has only returned to the postseason once since.

The new General Manager will immediately head off to the league’s annual General Managers Meetings this week to represent his new team.
