The San Francisco Giants fired manager Bobby Evans on Monday after 4 seasons. He will be assigned new duties as the team searches for a new head of baseball operations.

The franchise’s president, Laurence M. Baer, thanked Evans for his role in helping the team achieve repeated success over the years. He also confirmed that the 50-year-old will be remaining at San Francisco albeit at a different capacity.

I want to thank Bobby for his tireless work on behalf of the Giants,” – Baer said. “He played an important role in our team’s success throughout his tenure, which includes three World Series championships, four NL pennants, and eight playoff appearances.”

The last four years when Evans was GM have been some of Giants’ worst in the team’s history. On Monday, the team was 72-84, the fourth worst in the national league. They only made it to a playoff in 2016 and lost in the national divisions series. Their 68-94 record last season was the franchise’s worst in 30 years.

During Brian Sabean’s tenure as general manager, the San Francisco won three world titles in 5 years between 2010 and 2015. He was promoted to be vice president as Evans replaced him.

While the general manager is leaving, Coach Bruce Bochy is expected to complete the final year of his contract in the coming 2019 season.
