San Diego FC is reportedly on the verge of securing a big name on its roster for its MLS debut in 2025. According to The Athletic’s Tom Bogert, San Diego is in talks with former Real Madrid star defender Sergio Ramos.

Ramos is currently playing with his boyhood club, Sevilla, but is expected to leave in the summer after his contract expires. He reportedly has other offers, but San Diego is currently the front-runner and would register him as a Designated Player.

Sergio Ramos is best known for his time with Real, where he established himself as a club legend and one of the best defenders ever. During his 16 seasons with the club, Ramos made 671 appearances in all competitions while helping Real win five La Liga titles and four UEFA Champions League trophies, among other accomplishments.

After leaving Real following a contract dispute at the end of the 2020–21 season, Ramos played two years with Paris Saint-Germain. He decided to take a significant pay cut last summer to rejoin Sevilla, the club where he made his professional debut in 2004.

San Diego FC currently has only three players on its roster: goalkeeper Duran Ferree, center-back Jeppe Tverskov, and forward Marcus Ingvartsen. Besides pursuing Ramos, the club is also close to agreeing terms with Mexico international Hirving Lozano.

I am a reality TV junkie. My dream since I was a kid was to be on Big Brother, but until then you can catch me binge-watching episodes each summer.
