The New Orleans Saints offense is going to have to play without their best playmaker for a few weeks.

According to the team, star wide receiver Michael Thomas has an ankle injury and will be out for a few weeks recovering from the injury. The injury is believed to be a high sprain, which he suffered in Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccanneers.

Earlier reports claim that Thomas initially thought that he would be able to play through the injury, but it seems that this won’t be the case.

The Saints are going to have to get creative and spread the ball around in order to make up for Thomas’s absence. Even when Thomas doesn’t get the ball a lot and put up big numbers, the attention that opposing defenses focus on stopping him usually opens up other players.

Thomas is a three-time Pro-Bowler and has led the league in catches in both of the last two years. He is also incredibly durable, having only missed one game since being drafted in 2016.

In 2019, Thomas set the single-season receptions record with 149 catches for 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns.

Next for the Saints is a Monday night matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
