New Orleans Saints are getting ready for the postseason with some final roster additions. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Saints have signed veteran cornerback DeShawn Shead.

The move comes after Saints’ secondary took a hit in the recent week, with both CB Eli Apple and safety Vonn Bell dealing with injuries. Shead’s versatility means that the team now has options in case something goes wrong.

Shead spent the better portion of the offseason with the Seattle Seahawks before being cut by the team in August.

DeShawn Shead started his NFL career in Seattle, being signed by the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2012. He spent six years with the franchise, during which he was part of the Super Bowl XLVIII-winning roster. Shead spent the 2018 season with the Detroit Lions, where he played 12 games and was started once.

Shead’s career stats include 172 tackles, 1.0 sacks, 24 pass deflections, two interceptions, and four forced fumbles.
