Buffalo Sabres can finally resume their training camp with the full roster as of Wednesday. The team signed forward Sam Reinhart, who was a restricted free agent, to a two-year deal worth $7.3 million.

This new deal means that Reinhart will end his holdout, which caused him to miss the start of the training camp, and will rejoin the team soon.

The issue with Sam Reinhart’s new contract was reportedly the fact that he was showing a great deal of inconsistency during his time in the league. The 22-year-old was taken second overall by the Sabres in 2014 NHL Entry Draft but didn’t manage to back up this selection on ice. He also struggled in the first part of the last season but ended up scoring 18 goals and 19 assists in the final 38 games, which brought him to a career-high 50 points in a single season. Reinhart played 249 NHL career games, scoring 65 goals and providing 75 assists.

Even though Sabres had to think twice before giving Reinhart this kind of a deal, general manager Jason Botterill insists that the young Canadian will play a significant part on the team.

He is part of the rebuild. That’s the bottom line,” – said Botterill. “It’s evident that he’s worked very hard this summer.
