Cristiano Ronaldo hinted at his willingness to play for a team in the UEFA Champions League in the future. This came as he and Italian former goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon assisted in the draw for the first round of this season’s Champions League held in Monaco.
During the first round draw, which is being held under a new format, Ronaldo was given an award for being the top scorer in Champions league history with 140 goals in the competition over the course of his career. It was then that UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin joked about Ronaldo no longer playing in Europe’s elite club tournament.
“I play Asian [Champions] League, don’t forget that,” Ronaldo stated. Currently, he plays for Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr. “For me it is a pleasure to be here. Thank you for this amazing award it means a lot to me. Football… you never know what’s going to happen, let’s see what the future brings.”
Ronaldo is a five-time Champions League winner, having won the competition once with Manchester United and on four occasions with Real Madrid.
