Roger Federer is forced to take some time away from tennis. The Swiss tennis player announced on Thursday that he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery, which will force him to spend up to four months on the sidelines.

Due to the surgery, Federer will miss tournaments in Dubai, Indian Wells, Bogota, and Miami, as well as French Open, the second Grand Slam of the season.

According to the announcement posted on his social media, the 38-year-old should be back in time for grass tournaments.

“After the procedure, the doctors confirmed that it was the right thing to have done and are very confident of a full recovery,” said Federer in a statement. “As a result, I will unfortunately have to miss Dubai, Indian Wells, Bogota, Miami and the French Open. I am grateful for everyone’s support. I can’t wait to be back playing soon, see you on the grass!”

Federer’s last tennis match came in Cape Town, South Africa when he managed to beat Rafael Nadal in an exhibition game in front of record 51,954 people. He previously took part in the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the season, where he made it to semi-finals before being eliminated by the eventual champion Novak Djokovic.
