Houston Rockets are getting Oklahoma City Thunder’s 2012 squad back together one piece at a time. According to ESPN’s sources, Rockets have now signed veteran forward Thabo Sefolosha to a one-year deal.

Rockets have two former OKC’s players in their superstar James Harden and newly acquired All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook. Sefolosha also played for the Thunder in the past, and shared the court with the duo between 2009 and 2012. He is also credited for mentoring Harden at the time, and helping him win NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year award.

Thabo Sefolosha spent the previous two seasons with Utah Jazz, earning the majority of his minutes as a backup. He made 50 appearances for Jazz in 2018/19, averaging career-low 12.2 minutes per game and contributing with 3.8 points and 2.5 rebounds.

Despite his lack of production in recent years, Sefolosha is still valued in the league as a quality defender. With his ability to hit three-pointers, he fits perfectly in head coach Mike D’Antoni’s system and could play a prominent role for Houston this season.

Sefolosha earned the chance with the Rockets by attending the team’s minicamp in Las Vegas in these past few days. Nick Young, Luc Mbah A Moute, Corey Brewer, and Raymond Felton were also in attendance but so far they didn’t impress enough to earn a contract.
