Carmelo Anthony’s brief stint with the Houston Rockets came to an unexpected end on Thursday. The 34-year-old played only 10 regular season games in Houston but a slew of bad games saw his relationship with the club decline quickly.

“After much internal discussion, the Rockets will be parting ways with Carmelo Anthony and we are working toward a resolution,” – general manager Darl Morey said in a statement. “Carmelo had a tremendous approach during his time with the Rockets and accepted every role head coach Mike D’Antoni gave him. The fit we envisioned when Carmelo chose to sign with the Rockets has not materialized, therefore we thought it was best to move on as any other outcome would have been unfair to him.”

The Rockets allegedly don’t plan to waive the 34-year-old. Instead, they’ve allowed him to source a landing spot on his own. So far, only the Puerto Rico National team has shown interest in the player, calling him up to play for his father’s native home.

If Anthony finds a franchise that will be interested in him, he will still have to wait until Dec. 15 when trade restrictions for free agents end.

The Rockets announced last week they didn’t have Anthony in their plans anymore and the 34-year-old had not been practicing with them since Friday. At the time, Coach Mark D’Antoni said Carmelo had fulfilled every role they had asked of him. However, the team thought it was unfair for the player to play in riles that didn’t suit him.
