Since joining Bayern Munich six years ago, Robert Lewandowski established himself as a club legend and one of the best strikers in the world. However, according to his former agent Cezary Kucharski, Lewandowski almost signed with Real Madrid instead of Bayern.

Lewandowski came to Bayern as a free agent after his contract with Borussia Dortmund expired in 2014. But during his negotiations with the Bavarian giant, the Polish striker almost changed his mind due to his desire to play with superstar forward Cristiano Ronaldo.

“At one point in the negotiations, he no longer wanted to sign a contract with Bayern, and wanted Real Madrid instead because Ronaldo played there,” said Kucharski in a chat with Futbolownia.

Kucharski ended up playing a crucial role in Lewandowski’s decision, convincing him to choose Bayern as he would be club’s undisputed No.1 striker.

“I convinced him that he had to be the number one striker at a big club. At Real Madrid, he would have prevailed over Karim Benzema at some point, but I couldn’t allow him to move to a club as a number two given the status he already had at that time,” he explained.

It’s safe to say that the decision to join Bayern Munich worked out for Robert Lewandowski. He won five Bundesliga titles with Bayern while topping the Bundesliga scoring charts three times. So far, Lewandowski played 281 games with the club and scored impressive 236 goals.
