Robert Lewandowski finally went public with his plans for the future. Speaking with the media on Monday, the Polish striker said that he wants to leave Bayern Munich and he believes his time with the club should be over.

Lewandowski and Bayern failed to come to terms on a new contract despite negotiating for some time. The saga resulted in the relationship between the two sides turning sour, and it appears that Lewandowski intends to be the first to break the status quo.

“One thing is certain today — my story with Bayern is over. After everything that has happened in recent months, I cannot imagine further good cooperation,” said Lewandowski.

Lewandowski has one year left on his deal but is keen to force a transfer this summer. He reportedly eyes moving to Spain, where Barcelona is interested in his services.

“I realize a transfer will be the best solution for both sides,” he added.

Whether he manages to get his wish remains to be seen. Bayern’s brass seems to have no intentions of sanctioning Lewandowski’s transfer, and the club is willing to keep him for one more year despite the fact that he’ll be able to walk out for free after that.

Lewandowski spent the previous eight years with Bayern. He played 375 games for the Bavarian powerhouse and scored 344 goals. The 33-year-old player also won Bundesliga each season since arriving in Munchen on top of one UEFA Champions League trophy.
