Polish striker Robert Lewandowski appears to be ready for a new challenge after dominating the Bundesliga for the better part of the past decade. According to Sky Sports, Lewandowski already informed Bayern Munich that he doesn’t want to extend his deal past the 2022-23 season.

Reportedly, Lewandowski wasn’t thrilled with the terms Bayern offered him in the past, but that isn’t the key reason for his decision. The 33-year-old player believes he achieved everything he could in Germany and now wants to experience playing somewhere else.

Lewandowski’s preferred option appears to be Barcelona. There is mutual interest as the La Liga giants have long admired the two-time Best FIFA Men’s Player. However, the Catalan club might face a challenge in bringing him to Camp Nou due to their dire financial situation.

Since Lewandowski only has one year left on his contract, Bayern is ready to let him go in the summer rather than seeing him walk for free after next season. However, they are likely to ask for a fee of around $40 million; something Barca will have a hard time affording. Still, Poland’s captain hopes that the Bundesliga powerhouse will reconsider their evaluation as a way of thanking him for his contributions to the club.

Lewandowski joined Bayern Munich in 2014 on a free transfer and has since scored 343 goals in 373 games for the club. He also helped Bayern win 19 trophies, including eight consecutive Bundesliga titles.
