After sorting out their front with the acquisition of Uruguayan star striker Luis Suarez, Inter Miami is reportedly now focused on strengthening their defense. However, things are currently not going as planned for the MLS side.

According to a report by Argentine media outlet TyC Sports, Inter Miami’s recent offer for River Plate’s center-back David Martinez was rejected by the Argentinean club. The bid, believed to be around $1.8 million, was considered too low by River, which has a much higher price tag on the player.

Martinez signed with River in early 2023 after a spell with Defensa y Justicia. Since then, the Paraguay international only made three appearances for the club in all competitions.

It is unclear whether Inter Miami plans to return with a higher bid in an attempt to convince River to sell Martinez. The MLS club is also monitoring other players and could reportedly go down the veteran route once again by shifting its focus to Boca Junior’s Marcos Rojo.

Rojo, who previously starred for Manchester United, signed with Boca in 2021 and just recently extended his contract. However, the chance of playing with former Argentine national team teammate Lionel Messi in Miami might be too good to pass on.
