Veteran pitcher Rich Hill has returned to the Boston Red Sox, the team confirmed. The Red Sox selected him from Triple-A Worcester, giving him the opportunity to become the first player to appear in at least one game in the majors in each of the past 20 seasons.

“He looks great physically,” manager Alex Cora explained, justifying his team’s decision to select the 44-year-old. “He’s always taking care of that part. He’s excited to be back. He was very diligent the last few months about his craft. He’s always done it. So now, no doubt about him that physically, he’s going to be OK, throw the ball well.”

In 382 career games, Hill has gone 90-73 with a 4.01 ERA. He played for thirteen teams throughout his career, spending three spells with the team including his latest stint. Hill played for the Red Sox from 2010 to 2012, then in 2015 before finally returning to the Red Sox in 2022, albeit playing in the minor leagues.
