Chelsea and England right-back Reece James departed early from Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Bournemouth on Tuesday night after incurring a new injury concern. This was James’ first game back since undergoing surgery for a knee injury suffered against AC Milan in the Champions League on October 11.

James collapsed eight minutes into the second half, at which point Chelsea’s medical team came onto the pitch to attend to him. It appeared as if James was struggling with an issue in the same area as his previous knee troubles.

“He’s not good, but we’ll have to wait and see. It’s too early for me to speculate, but whenever he comes off like that, it is not positive,” Chelsea manager Graham Potter said of the issue. The Blues are still awaiting a more detailed prognosis on James’ injury.

Potter further revealed that he does not regret his decision to allow James to play again so soon after his previous injury worry. He claimed that James found himself in a good place during the World Cup break, adding that the right-back has been training well with the team.
