Washington Redskins have sign defensive end Matt Ioannidis to a multi-year contract extension, the team has announced on Thursday.

While Redskins didn’t reveal the financial terms of the deal, NFL Network reports that Ioannidis will receive a three-year, $21.75 million extension. The $14 million are guaranteed while he will be able to add $3 million to the overall value of the contract through incentives.

Ioannidis had a career year in 2018, managing 31 tackles and 7.5 sacks although he only played 14 games and started nine of them.

The deal was confirmed on the team’s official social media.

Redskins initially took Matt Ioannidis in the fifth round of 2016 NFL Draft only to waive him before the start of the season and sign him to their practice squad. Still, Ioannidis got a chance to play in his rookie season following Kedric Golston’s injury, and ended up playing in 10 games. He was given a more prominent role in his sophomore season, starting nine games.

Ioannidis’ NFL career stats include 65 tackles, 12.0 sacks, 28 quarterback hits and two forced fumbles.
