Washington Redskins decided to move away from their safety D.J. Swearinger after the 27-year-old publicly criticized the team’s defensive coordinator Greg Manusky over the weekend. This was confirmed on 106.7’s The Fan by Swearinger himself, who said that Washington’s coach Jay Gruden invited him to the office to let him know about the team’s decision.

Redskins faced the Tennessee Titans on Saturday and lost the game 25-16 even though their opponent played with backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert. D.J. Swearinger was angry after the game, criticizing Manusky’s play calling and saying that the team should play zone defense.

We should have blowed them out,” – said Swearinger. “If I’m the D-coordinator, I’m calling zone every time on third down because you got a backup quarterback. Make him beat us.

We’re playing a backup quarterback. Why would you put us in man-to-man? We are our best on defense when we look at the quarterback,” – he added.

D.J. Swearinger entered the NFL in 2013 after the Houston Texans selected him in the second round of that year’s draft. He also played for Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals before landing in Washington in 2017.

Swearinger has had a solid 2018 season so far, managing 53 tackles, four interceptions, 1.0 sacks, and three forced fumbles.
