David Price is set to make his return to the pitching mound for the Boston Red Sox today after missing nearly a month due to a cyst on his left wrist.

The big left-hander will look to rejoin the Red Sox rotation for the final month of the season and finish strong in what has been a disappointing 2019 both for him and for his team.

Price, who was a key part of the 2018 World Series squad that took home baseball’s top prize last season, has struggled with injury and inconsistency this season. Before going down with a cyst, Price had posted a 4.36 ERA in 21 starts for Boston on the season.

Price’s 2019 hasn’t been terrible on the surface, but it goes without saying that the Red Sox expect more from the starter that they handed a seven-year, $217 million contract to prior to the 2016 season.

The Vanderbilt alum posted a 3.38 and a 3.58 ERA in his first two seasons in Boston.

With the Red Sox virtually out of playoff contention, Price will simply look to gain confidence and stay healthy in the final month of the 2019 season. Both he and the team will look to do better in the 2020 campaign.
