Boston Red Sox not only look unstoppable this year, but they are also making history. The 6-2 win over Baltimore Orioles on Monday night was 106th for the Red Sox in this season and good enough for a new franchise record.
The previous record was held by the 1912 Red Sox team, who notched 105 wins on their way to winning the franchise’s second World Series. It is important to note that the 1912 team got their 105 wins during the 154-game schedule, while 2018 got to 106 wins in their 157th game of the regular season.
“You think about all the history of the game and the history of this franchise,” – said the team’s manager Alex Cora. “To be part of this, I can’t even explain it. We should call timeout and enjoy this one. We know what we want to do in October, but this one … for us to do it is amazing.“
Things look more than suitable for the Boston Red Sox at the moment. With this win, they have secured the home field advantage through the entire playoffs, since their closest rival, Houston Astros, is currently seven games behind. Also, Red Sox have the history working in their favor. Five out of six times Boston had the best record in the regular season, they managed to win the World Series.
Until the 2018 MLB regular season wraps up, we could see Red Sox breaking another record. If they manage to get four more wins, they will break the record of 1961 New York Yankees as a team with most wins led by a rookie skipper.
Boston Red Sox will have two more games with the Orioles before hosting the Yankees at Fenway Park for the final three games of the regular season.
